Moyes-ally backs Everton to sign free agent from PL rival, he'd land significant wage increase

Everton could make a move to sign Rico Henry as his contract ticks down at Brentford.

The Toffees are edging closer to the summer window, not knowing their fate in terms of European qualification.

Regardless of their place in continental football next season, reinforcements will certainly be needed when the summer transfer window opens.

That could see David Moyes utilise various avenues to sign new players, with the free transfer market representing a positive avenue.

Henry could be of interest to Everton as he edges towards the end of his current deal at the Gtech Community Stadium.

Everton could hand Rico Henry a 66% wage increase

There have been regular calls for the Blues to recruit in the left-back area, even after the signing of Adam Aznou from Bayern Munich.

Vitalii Mykolenko has been the go-to man once again this season, but has come under scrutiny for his showings at various points.

That could see Moyes look to sign a new full-back, with the Brentford man potentially available as a free transfer.

Former Everton scout Bryan King has put Henry forward as an option in L3, as a wage increase has been mooted ahead of the summer.

Speaking exclusively to Goodison News, King said: “Moyes likes to bring in players to gee them up and get them playing.

“I like Rico Henry, and on a free transfer, he’d certainly be a good acquisition.

“If he joined Everton on a free, his wages would go up from £30,000 to £50,000 a week.

“That would be money well spent for a 28-year-old with plenty of Premier League experience.”

A move for the Brentford man may spell bad news for Aznou at Everton, even if complications may arise on Merseyside.

Brentford could keep hold of Henry yet

The defender’s contract is up at the end of the season after putting pen to paper on a long-term extension back in 2022.

His four-year deal has kept him at the Gtech Community Stadium to this point, but it will expire in the coming months.

That will only be the case if Brentford decide not to take up their option of a further year on the end of Henry’s current deal.

The Bees hold all the cards under that arrangement and could leave Everton fighting an uphill battle when the transfer window opens.

If Moyes makes an offer to the Englishman, it could change the story, but that is yet to be seen.
