Neil Warnock tears 'arrogant' ex-Rangers man to shreds after encounter with him, shares his Ibrox regret

Neil Warnock has thrown shade on Philippe Clement’s name after being previously left unimpressed by the ex-Rangers man’s attitude.

Clement was a divisive figure at Ibrox over his nearly two-year tenure in Glasgow, which saw the Bears lift the Premier Sports Cup during the 2023-24 season.

Rangers decided to part ways with Clement last campaign after the Bears started to fall out of the title picture, with Celtic ultimately winning the Scottish Premiership.

Clement was recently appointed as Norwich City’s head coach, as the 51-year-old looks to guide the Canaries to a Premier League return in the near future.

Former Aberdeen manager Warnock has explained how he saw through the “arrogant” Clement and elaborated on his own Rangers dream, which never came true.

Neil Warnock claims Philippe Clement didn’t understand the Rangers way

Clement has so far managed five games in charge of Norwich in the Championship and has only seen victory on one occasion.

The Canaries currently sit 23rd in England’s second tier, and the former Gers man needs to help keep Norwich up before turning his attention to a push for promotion.

Some Rangers fans may not be surprised at the start the Belgian has made in England, as the cracks started to show in his last season in charge of the Bears.

Philippe Clement’s Rangers record during the 2024-25 season:

While speaking on talkSPORT on Friday, the vastly experienced Warnock talked down on Clement and discussed his own regret at never having the chance to manage Rangers, poking fun at Alan Brazil.

Warnock said: “When I was up at Aberdeen, I went to Rangers… [Clement] was arrogant – the Rangers guy, he’s gone to Norwich now I think, hasn’t he?

“I thought he was a little bit over the top, but I didn’t think he grasped what Rangers is and what it means to them. It’s life or death up there.

“It’s one of my regrets that I never had a chance at Rangers, because of Alan Brazil and all that. I’d love to have shoved it, you know.”

Danny Rohl is without the luxury that Clement had

Danny Rohl is picking up the pieces of Kevin Thelwell and Patrick Stewart’s mess at Rangers, and there are no fair comparisons that can be made at this stage between the German and Clement.

Clement had the pleasure of coaching the likes of Hamza Igamane, Vaclav Cerny, and Cyriel Dessers, all of whom are players that Rohl would die for right now.

Rangers fans will be fully aware of the task that Rohl has on his hands, as things have drastically changed internally and externally since Clement’s departure.

The Gers are now out of the Europa League, which means Rohl has the chance to turn his full attention to the Scottish Premiership.

But with a January transfer market looming, a miracle could still happen at Ibrox.
