Newcastle are already putting concrete plans in place to secure their first summer signing just days after the end of the January window.

The Premier League giants made it through the entire winter window without securing a new addition to their squad, while Jamaal Lascelles was also the only senior player to leave the club.

Lascelles’ future at Newcastle had been in doubt for several months, and he finally secured a move away from St James’ Park in the final hours before the deadline, as he joined Leicester City of the Championship.

Eddie Howe’s side have struggled to find consistency in league action so far this season, but they have already got their eyes fixed on a summer move to strengthen their chances for next term.

Newcastle made contact over Dusan Vlahovic deal

Football Insider revealed back in November that Tottenham were considering Dusan Vlahovic as an option to strengthen their attack in the January window, but is now Newcastle who have come to the fore.

The Serbian ultimately stayed put at Juventus this winter, but a summer exit is looking increasingly unlikely, given that his contract is due to expire at the end of the campaign.

Newcastle are keen to put themselves forward as a candidate to sign the frontman, and have already made contact to explore the costs of a potential deal, according to Calcio Mercato.

The Italian outlet understands that there are currently no meetings planned between Vlahovic and Juventus to discuss a potential extension, meaning that he is currently set to leave as a free agent in the summer.

Newcastle have already begun to angle themselves towards a potential move for the 26-year-old, while Chelsea have also asked for information on his services.

Micah Richards thinks Vlahovic would be an excellent signing

Vlahovic has been linked with a Premier League move for several years now, but it has never materialised up until now.

The former Fiorentina star has been a consistent goalscorer in Serie A throughout his career, and he could finally be about to test himself in the English top flight next term.

Micah Richards has already suggested previously that the hitman would be an excellent addition, as he heaped praise on him while he was linked with Arsenal and Manchester City back in 2021.

“I’ve watched him (Vlahovic) a couple of times,” the pundit said, according to The Independent.

“He is lightning. It’s ridiculous. His left foot is like a wand. I am telling you now, he is everything you need.”

Vlahovic has since surpassed the 15-goal mark in all competitions in each of his last two seasons, and is already well on his way to reaching that level once again this term.

Richards was in awe of the Serbian’s ability five years ago, and given the way that he has progressed since then, it would be a hugely exciting acquistion for Newcastle if they could secure a deal for him.
