Nick Woltemade and Bruno Guimaraes respond as Newcastle United star shares surgery update
Newcastle United stars flocked onto social media to wish well one of their own following a huge injury blow at St James’ Park.
Jamaal Lascelles could quit Newcastle as the January transfer window heats up, but Eddie Howe‘s main concern will be the pile-up of injuries, such as Dan Burn and Jacob Murphy.
Howe’s side were knocked out of the Carabao Cup by Man City on Tuesday, 13 January, making it one less competition to worry about, but still with Premier League and Champions League football.
Due to a problem of his own, Burn was a pundit for the defeat at St James’ Park, and the issues continue to mount for the Magpies, with Fabian Schar also unavailable.
The Swiss international joins an ever-growing list of players on the treatment table in the North East.

Fabian Schar undergoes surgery at Newcastle United
Schar was forced off against Leeds United in the first week of the year, and the defender has since undergone surgery on his ankle, taking to Instagram to share an update on Thursday, 15 January.
He said, “Thank you for all the well wishes over the past few weeks – it means a lot! The prognosis is better than first feared… and most importantly, the surgery went well in London today!
“I’ll be supporting the boys from the stands in the meantime, and I can’t wait to get back out there,” to which Bruno Guimaraes commented, “Get well, brother,” while Nick Woltemade replied with heart emojis.
Tino Livramento is also facing a spell out through injury, and the full-back also commented with heart emojis, and so did Salomon Rondon, Breel Embolo, and Jacob Murphy.
Eddie Howe to target new transfers in January
The biggest news so far has been Sven Botman penning new terms at Newcastle, which could be the most important deal of the January transfer window.
With Lascelles likely to leave, Howe is quickly running out of options in the backline, and there does not appear to be many options being explored this month.
Many centre-backs have been linked over the last couple of windows, such as Atalanta‘s Giorgio Scalvini, but all is quiet behind the scenes right now, at least that’s what it seems like.
Despite the growing lack of options, the Magpies remain sixth in the Premier League table, just three points off the Champions League spots, with plenty left to play for in the second half of the campaign.
