Nils Koppen congratulates player on Ibrox move as latest Rangers transfer done

Nils Koppen is still keeping an eye on developments at Rangers.

Koppen left his post as Rangers technical director in June after 18 months in Govan, after the reshuffle under the 49ers Enterprises and Andrew Cavenagh.

The Belgian was responsible for uncovering several diamonds in his time as transfer chief, such as Nicolas Raskin, Hamza Igamane and Vaclav Cerny.

He has now reacted after the Ibrox side confirmed a new addition, despite no longer being employed by the Light Blues.

What did Nils Koppen say to new Rangers man?

Rangers confirmed the signing of Tuur Rommens on Wednesday, and the ex-Ibrox recruitment chief has sent a message of congratulations.

An account in Koppen‘s name, which is followed by Chris Jack and Ben Jacobs, sent a message to the new Gers star.

Taking to X on 14 January, he said: “Congrats! Great move and looking forward seeing you going down that left wing.”

Why Koppen’s stint at Rangers is underrated

Koppen’s departure may come back to haunt the Gers, as his time in G51 went under the radar at the time.

The Belgian pulled off several brilliant deals in his time in charge of transfers, with fees of just £1.5m and £1.7m for Raskin and Igamane from Standard Liege and FAR Rabat respectively.

The former is attracting interest and could fetch the Gers a huge fee in the near future, while the latter left for a fee of £10.4m to join Lille, a huge profit for the Auchenhowie side.

Jefte was another of his signings, with a £680,000 fee paid and £6m fee received when he left for Palmieras, another huge boost to the Govan side’s finances.

He did sign some poor players, who have not succeeded in Glasgow, such as Nedim Bajrami and Oscar Cortes, but the majority of his gambles in the foreign market have paid off.

Some of them may even help Danny Rohl’s side to win the title this season, which would surely enhance Koppen’s reputation even further.

It is good to see that he is still checking on his former club, and his message to Rommens was a nice touch from a man whose Gers legacy could be enhanced shortly.
