Oliver Glasner attacks Crystal Palace board over Marc Guehi transfer after Sunderland defeat
Oliver Glasner hit out at Crystal Palace’s hierarchy over their decision to sell Marc Guehi before their 2-1 defeat to Sunderland on Saturday.
Guehi was left out of Palace’s matchday squad in order to finalise his £20 million move to Pep Guardiola’s side this weekend.
Palace took the lead against Sunderland but the Black Cats equalised before half time through Enzo Le Fee before Brian Brobbey’s excellent finish sealed the victory for Regis Le Bris’ side at the Stadium of Light.
Speaking after the defeat, Glasner, who announced on Friday that he will leave Selhurst Park at the end of the season, said he had ‘completely no understanding’ of Palace’s reasoning behind selling Guehi before their game against Sunderland and accused the board of a lack of support.
‘We feel that we have been abandoned completely,’ Glasner told Sky Sports after the defeat.
‘Selling our captain one day before a game. Completely no understanding for this, we’re preparing and then yesterday at 10.30am I get told that our captain will be sold, so why not next week? He can play this game, next week other players are coming back and it makes me really upset today.

‘Your heart gets torn out twice a year with [Eberechi] Eze one day before a game in the summer and your captain one day before a game. I have just no understanding.
‘I’ve been in football for more than 30 years, I’ve not experienced this once now it happens twice in six or seven months. I think it’s where we are now.
‘We’ve playing for weeks now with 12, 13 players from our squad.’
Asked if Palace will be active in the transfer window, Glasner replied: ‘I don’t know.
‘Again, I heard yesterday at 10.30am for the first time that we are selling Marc. Negotiations are a few days long, so nobody called, and at 10.30am everything was agreed and then we have to deal with it.
‘One day before a game, going here to Sunderland, we know we’re not in the best run, we know all circumstances, we have no players available and we’re selling our captain. Completely no understanding, no team would do this. I’ve seen other players play and then the next day they are leaving, we’re selling the day before.’
Asked if he will see the season out at Palace, Glasner responded: ‘I don’t know.
‘I have a huge appreciation for this group of players, I completely trust them, their character is exceptional. We will stick together and get this turned around. I will never step back. These players deserve Oliver Glasner as their manager and as their leader and this is what I will do.
‘But sometimes it would help if we have a little bit of support.’
