Pep Guardiola 'unsettled and unhappy' at Man City

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola needs to take a break from football at the end of the season.

That is according to ex-Everton, Aston Villa, and Aberdeen chief executive Keith Wyness, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, who believes personal issues are affecting the Spaniard.

Guardiola’s contract at Man City does not expire until the end of next season, and the 55-year-old has not committed his future beyond that to the club.

Man City appointed Guardiola in 2016 and he has won 18 trophies in 10 years at the club, but they have been knocked out of the Champions League in the round of 16 this season, and face an uphill battle to claim the Premier League title.

If Guardiola does decide to leave then Man City would be looking for a new manager for the first time in a decade, with Enzo Maresca among the potential candidates to takeover at the Etihad.

Pep Guardiola ‘needs a break’ from managerial post

Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – believes Guardiola should step down at the end of the season.

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast, Wyness states that Guardiola’s unhappiness is starting to show more and more.

He told Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast: “You know, we’ve been saying this, and I haven’t been able to say in the most positive, affirmative way that he’s going to be staying.

“I’ve always alluded to personal issues that I think have made him unsettled and unhappy, and it seems to be coming through more and more. So nothing is going to surprise me.

“I think Pep will need a break, and I think it may be time to call at least a pause if nothing else in that position.”

Man City’s stance on Omar Marmoush sale

Sources have told Football Insider that Man City do not plan to let Omar Marmoush leave the club despite the forward’s lack of game time.

Marmoush has started just seven Premier League games this season, as the 27-year-old plays back-up to Erling Haaland.

The Egyptian would have to force through an exit if he wanted to leave the Etihad, with Tottenham having previously held interest in his services.
