Porto vs Rangers postponement latest as Portugal hit by weather warning

Rangers are set for a trip to face Porto in the Europa League on Thursday.

Porto were interested in signing Nico Raskin in the summer and now look set to come up against the Belgium international on the continent.

Danny Rohl’s side are preparing for a trip to Portugal just days after Rangers secured a 3-0 win against Dundee last time around.

There were weather concerns surrounding the clash against Dundee, but Ibrox was able to play host to the Scottish Premierhsip clash.

It looks as if the conditions could take a toll in the upcoming Europa League clash, with weather warnings in place at Estadio do Dragao.

Porto weather warning in place ahead of Rangers clash

Rangers beat Ludogorets 1-0 last time around, as the Light Blues finally saw a win during their continental campaign.

The Govan faithful will be hoping for a similar result in their next outing as a trip to face Francesco Farioli’s Dragons.

Things won’t be easy against the Liga Portugal leaders with Porto on an 11-game unbeaten run, stretching back to 7 December.

Rangers Porto stats

Rangers are in for a tough task in Portugal, especially with weather conditions set to be far from ideal for the travelling faithful.

MateoAlarm have revealed two weather warnings for Portugal, with a yellow warning for rain starting at 9pm on Wednesday and lasting until 9am on Thursday.

There is also an orange warning for a “Coastal Event” with the description reading, “Northwest waves measuring five to seven meters, reaching a maximum height of 12 meters, with a peak period of 14/16 seconds.

It is unclear whether or not these concerns will impact Rangers’ clash at Estadio do Dragao, but it is far from ideal.

Rangers could thrive on poor conditions in Porto

The Light Blues are in need of some luck if they are to secure victory against the Dragons based on the form they are on right now.

Their Europa League form hasn’t been as perfect as their Liga Portugal performances, with their defeat against Nottingham Forest being a low point this campaign.

Sean Dyche’s side proved that Porto can be beaten and that is something that Rohl needs to look at ahead of a trip to the continent.

If the German can get his game plan right and play into the conditions, it could prove to be a positive night for the Gers.

The rain could throw the hosts off their game and provide the Govan club with an opportunity to end their Europa League campaign on a high note.
