Premier League sack race: Arne Slot in extremely precarious position after big exit news on Monday

Arne Slot could be the next manager to go in the Premier League after Ruben Amorim was given the boot at Man United.

Man United sacked Amorim on Monday, ending his 14-month reign at the club.

It was the second managerial departure of 2026 after Enzo Maresca also left Chelsea last week, meaning two of the ‘big six’ sides in the Premier League are without a manager as it stands.

However, with more departures expected before the season ends, Slot could soon find himself on the chopping block amid Liverpool’s awful recent form.

Arne Slot second-favourite to be sacked next in the Premier League

Liverpool have been woeful in recent weeks.

Despite their form recovering in late 2025, results and performances have now dropped off once again.

Liverpool drew again on the weekend, with Harrison Reed’s late goal for Fulham ensuring a 2-2 result for the hosts.

As a result, many Liverpool fans have called for Slot to be sacked, with the Reds’ Champions League qualification in the balance.

Now, supporters may get their wish, with Slot 4/1 to depart next in the Premier League, making him the second favourite.

Nuno Espirito Santo is the current favourite at 2/1, with the West Ham manager having an awful time since his appointment at the London Stadium.

What did Slot say after the Fulham draw?

Slot was obviously far from amused that Liverpool dropped more points on the weekend.

It looked as if Cody Gakpo had won the game for the visitors with a stoppage-time goal. However, Reed’s wonder strike ensured the points were shared.

As a result, both Chelsea and Man United remain three points off the Reds, in what was a missed opportunity to pull clear.

Speaking after the match to Sky Sports on 4 January, Slot spoke about Liverpool’s ability to create chances.

He said: “In an away game, scoring two goals should maybe be enough to win the game. It’s not for the first time this season that we fight so hard and think we have a win but concede an incredible strike. We brought Joe Gomez in but they took it short. We missed out on a good result.

“We had our chances in the first half. We had a similar one with Cody Gakpo that they scored from. In an ideal world, we see a Liverpool team that is dominant but creates more chances. We scored two goals, scored two disallowed goals and hit the bar. Again, it wasn’t enough.

“The players are giving everything they have. I have to keep in mind that I have to keep them available. Alexander Isak is out and I have to overload or play Hugo more, a player who has never played in the Premier League. You have to manage that. We still have 11 very good players on the pitch.

“It’s not only for us, but many teams don’t create chances every game. It’s not perfect but at least we’ve created a few more chances today than last week.”
