Pundit shares why Rohl now partially to blame for Rangers situation as doubts creep in

Danny Rohl has been told to shoulder much of the responsibility for Rangers‘ slump.

Last Sunday’s bitter Scottish Cup knockout at the hands of Celtic leaves Gers with just the Scottish Premiership title to play for, but they trail leaders Hearts by six points.

Despite controlling much of the 120-minute showdown, the Ibrox giants were punished for failing to take their chances after being eliminated on penalties.

The nature of the latest Old Firm defeat has raised fresh questions over Rohl’s position, and he has now been warned that he is heavily responsible for the club’s collapse on all fronts.

Gers splashed out around £12million on four signings in January, recruiting Tuur Rommens, Andreas Skov Olsen, Ryan Naderi and Tochi Chukwuani, respectively.

That spending spree looked to have propelled them back into the fight for the league title, but a run of one win in their last five games across all competitions has been damaging.

While their top-flight hopes are still alive heading into their crucial trip to St Mirren on Sunday, pundit Gordon Dalziel believes major questions should be asked of Rohl.

Speaking on Clyde 1 Superscoreboard, he said: “I think he takes a big bit of blame. I think he has got a squad there and they have spent a lot of money, Rangers, this season.

“He has got to take that responsibility.

“I was talking about the fact that I would probably go with him in the summer as well.”

Dalziel added: “Rohl’s first three, four calls [on the show] on Sunday were why Rangers fans want him out. I know that it is a reaction after the game, but there is still a small amount that are starting to doubt him.”

Slowly but surely, sentiment from the stands does appear to be turning against Rohl, leaving him in a race against time to prove he remains the right man for the job.

Rohl only has himself to blame

Rohl has done a reasonable job since taking charge at Ibrox five months ago, having inspired a turnaround in results and performances. Now, however, the bubble has burst.

In truth, Gers have only dominated a handful of games under the former Sheffield Wednesday head coach, forcing them to rely on individual brilliance all too often.

Add to the mix his tendency to switch up his tactics, as well as his questionable in-game changes, and the overall picture is a little more muddled than he would like.

For now, he has time on his side, but Rohl simply must show more – and fast – if he is to have any chance of remaining in the dugout next season.
