Raheem Sterling offered to surprise club in free transfer, club figure confirms approach
Raheem Sterling is on the hunt for his next club after the winger was released by Chelsea.
Despite his excellent CV, the 31-year-old is yet to play a single match this season after he was ostracised by the Blues.
As a result, after the saga extending for months, Sterling was finally released by Chelsea last week via mutual consent, with his deal being terminated.
Since then, Sterling has been linked to multiple Premier League clubs as he looks to get his career back on track. However, he has also extended his search outside of Europe.
Union Berlin turn down Raheem Sterling after approach
According to Sky Sports reporter Florian Plettenberg, via X on 2 February, Sterling was offered to Union Berlin in recent days.
The Bundesliga side are currently ninth in the table, and are in the race for European football.
However, despite the prospect of having one of the Premier League’s all-time attackers in their side, Union Berlin have chosen not to pursue the deal.

Current director of football, Horst Heldt, has confirmed to Sky Sports that while an approach was made, they are not set to pursue the deal.
He said: “Sometimes you have to rub your eyes (…) In this case, it didn’t really seem serious. We didn’t pursue it any further.”
Who else is interested in Sterling?
Upon Sterling’s departure from Chelsea, the bookies’ favourites to sign the winger was Fulham.
However, this now looks unlikely, with the transfer window now closed, and the Cottagers already bringing in a winger in Oscar Bobb.
Football Insider has recently revealed that Sterling could make a move to the MLS or a Saudi Arabian team rather than a move back to the Premier League.
This comes amid West Ham’s interest in the winger as they look to stay in the Premier League.
The 31-year-old was previously only looking at moves to London clubs due to his family situation, but a switch abroad could now appeal him, especially after his recent Premier League struggles.
However, it remains to be seen where the former England international will end up as he looks to end his career on a high and forget about his previous misfortunes at the Blues.
