Rangers offer terms to youth gem as Premier League clubs circle - Chris Jack

Kyle Glasgow is the next big thing at Rangers, but they face a battle to keep hold of him.

Rangers gem Glasgow earned a shock call-up to the Portugal Under-16 squad in December and has been involved in first-team training under Danny Rohl.

A report from the Rangers Review on 22 January claims that the Ibrox side hope that the 15-year-old will commit his future to his boyhood club.

It states that Glasgow has been offered a professional contract, which he can sign next month when he turns 16.

Why might Rangers struggle to keep Glasgow around?

With a surname like Glasgow, surely, he is destined to be a Rangers legend in the future, but that may not be the case.

The report claims that Premier League clubs have shown interest in the Gers sensation, and if they can retain his services, it would be a “significant boost” for Rohl.

It states that he is expected to continue to progress and earn more first-team recognition in the next few months.

That could fend off the interest, but only time will tell.

Why is Glasgow making waves at Rangers?

Glasgow has been a standout in the youth ranks, which has only increased the hype surrounding his potential in Govan.

He can feature from the number 10 position or the flanks, and is a regular goalscorer in the academy sides.

He made headlines in February, when he struck a 25-year volley at the Alkass International Cup against Mohamed VI Academy in Qatar.

He is currently playing in the same competition, and earned the Best Player award in the goalless draw against Etoile Sportive du Sahel last time out.

The Light Blues have been criticised for not utilising their academy in recent years, so they need to show the youngster that there is a pathway to the first team, which has not been the case lately.

If they cannot, he may choose to move to the English top-flight and forge a reputation as a superstar there, instead of with the club with which he shares long-standing ties.

The 49ers Enterprises group have taken concerted steps to improve the academy and hopefully they continue and can convince Glasgow that his future remains in the city that he shares a name with.
