Rangers ready small fee to sign midfielder after latest contract twist - report

Dan Neil’s move to Rangers is still being negotiated.

Despite captaining Sunderland to promotion last season, he is yet to start a game in the English Premier League and looks to be on his way out.

Rangers are in the race to sign Neil and he has many different clubs fighting to secure his services.

Tochi Chukwuani joined Rangers on 11 January for a fee of £4million from Sturm Graz, and that deal kick-started their business in the winter transfer window.

However, Danny Rohl wants another midfielder following Connor Barron’s knee injury, and they’re willing to go all out to sign Neil.

Rangers ready fee on Dan Neil to sign him before 2 February

Neil’s impressive performances in the Championship have shown Rohl that he is exactly what they need at the centre of the park.

Alan Nixon has reported on his Patreon that the Bears are desperate to sign Neil and are willing to pay a small fee for him to make that happen.

The 24-year-old’s contract runs out at the end of the season, and despite not featuring regularly, he is willing to stay at Sunderland until it runs its course.

Several clubs in England are interested in Neil, and he wants to see out his contract before making a choice on his next destination.

Although there is no agreement between Rangers and Sunderland yet, the Bears are thought to be in the best position to sign him before the deadline on 2 February.

Dan Neil stats

With just over a week until the transfer deadline, the Light Blues need to speed up negotiations with the Black Cats if they want Neil in their squad for the second half of the campaign.

Dan Neil’s leadership could be vital for Rangers

This season must be quite hard for Neil.

After being the promotion-winning hero last campaign, the boyhood Sunderland fan has been cast aside by manager Regis Le Bris.

Given that they’re excelling in the Premier League, it has gone relatively unnoticed, and that’s also confirmed by the fact that Neil hasn’t made a fuss about the situation at all.

The defensive midfielder has been professional and remained determined to get back into the starting lineup, and although that hasn’t happened, his temperament has been fantastic.

Rangers have been criticised for their lack of leadership countless times this season, and Rohl is looking to add players with more experience to the team.

Neil is someone with plenty of promising qualities, and there is no doubt that he could play a huge part in the Scottish Premiership title charge.

It’s up to Rangers to do what it takes to get the deal done in January.
