Rangers told by director at Euro club to pay record fee to land midfield gem

Andrew Cavenagh and the 49ers Enterprises will have to fork out a significant fee if Rangers are to sign Silas Andersen.

Cavenagh had been urged to spend big this month in order to back Danny Rohl in the transfer market, and after a slow start, that’s now started to happen.

Tochi Chukwuani signed from Sturm Graz in a £4million deal, whilst left-back Tuur Rommens has completed a move to Rangers.

Meanwhile, Andreas Skov Olsen is close to completing his Ibrox switch from Wolfsburg, as Rohl gets his long-awaited upgrades in numerous areas of the pitch.

Rangers told Silas Andersen won’t come cheap

Rangers aren’t stopping there either, with Hacken midfielder Andersen also strongly linked with a move to Glasgow.

Some Gers fans may feel that central midfield has now been addressed with the signing of Chukwuani, but with talk of potential exits for Joe Rothwell and Lyall Cameron, Rohl may want another body in there.

However, in an interview with Fotbollskanalen, Hacken’s football director Martin Ericsson has revealed that it will take a club-record fee for the Swedish club to sell the 21-year-old this month.

“There has been [interest], but nothing concrete at the moment,” Ericsson replied when asked if there’s any offers on the table for Andersen at present, with the article citing Rangers’ interest.

“Andersen has a contract through 2028. If he is to be sold during the winter, it will be for something very special.”

When asked if it will take a record fee, Ericsson answered: “Yes... We’ll see, but everyone understands that we hold Silas in high regard.

He himself, if he’s going to leave, also wants to leave for something really good.”

Rangers may not just see Andersen as a midfielder

Rohl does have plenty of central midfield options at his disposal now, and so adding Andersen to the mix as well could really congest things in the middle of the park.

However, the Danish youth international isn’t just a central midfielder, as he’s also capable of operating in central defence.

As per Transfermarkt, out of his 45 games played for Hacken, Andersen has played 11 of those as a centre-back.

That is the type of versatility that could come in very handy indeed for Rohl, but any sort of deal clearly will not come cheap.
