'Really strange' - Journalist shares latest on Rangers delay after loan move agreed

Findlay Curtis may be set to stay at Rangers this month.

Curtis was expected to leave Rangers on loan, with a deal agreed for Kilmarnock to take the 19-year-old until the end of the campaign.

The deal would suit all parties, the Rugby Park outfit gets fresh attacking impetus, and the Gers gem works under a familiar face in Neil McCann.

However, it appears that the brakes have been pulled on an Ibrox exit after a new update on Danny Rohl‘s plans for the youngster.

Why Danny Rohl does not want Findlay Curtis to leave Rangers

Rangers ace Djeidi Gassama is attracting interest from Monaco, with the French club reportedly submitting a verbal offer for a loan, with a buy option of around £10million.

Scottish Sun’s Head of Sport Roger Hannah, believes that Rohl is delaying Curtis’ exit in case something happens with Gassama in the latter stages of the window.

Speaking on a Rangers transfer special on 27 January, he said: “It’s a really strange situation.

“My understanding about a week ago was that the deal was done, he was going to Kilmarnock on loan.

“Rangers, because of the size of the Europa League squad and injuries, needed him to be on the bench on Thursday night.

“I thought he would go to Kilmarnock on Friday, I thought he would make his Kilmarnock debut at Fir Park on Saturday and none of those things happened.

“He was involved again off the bench against Dundee on Sunday, and I think crucially, particularly when he came on in the European game against Ludogorets, he showed up well.

“I just wonder if Danny Rohl is thinking ‘I’m going to keep him in the building in case something mad happens with Gassama.’

“He clearly wouldn’t want Gassama and Curtis leaving the building between now and next Monday.”

Why Rangers’ stance on Curtis is the wrong one

The Gers’ stance on Curtis is not good for the player, as they cannot hold on to him and stunt his progress, just because they could lose Gassama.

The likes of Mikey Moore and Andreas Skov Olsen are good enough to step up if the ex-Sheffield Wednesday man departs, so the youngster should be allowed to leave.

Rangers’ wing options this season.

He needs regular gametime in the Scottish Premiership to further his development, and he would have gotten that in East Ayrshire, as they are desperate for attacking recruits.

The opportunity to work under McCann, who he will know from last season, when he was part of Barry Ferguson’s staff was a really good one, and would have allowed him to develop away from Govan.

It appears as though he may not get the chance now, which is a shame, as he will likely sit on the bench for the majority of the season in G51, and will not get many opportunities to show what he can do.

That will not serve his development in the best way, and that is why it would be the wrong decision to keep him around and not let him leave on a temporary basis.

If he played the full second of the season rather than making cameos for the Light Blues, he would come back to Auchenhowie as a much better player next season.
