Robbie Keane now in pole position to be next Tottenham manager as he agrees Premier League deal

Robbie Keane is now the leading contender to replace Thomas Frank as Tottenham’s manager.

After Spurs lost 2-1 at home against West Ham on Saturday, Frank is under more scrutiny than ever.

One journalist has revealed that Frank has been “all but sacked” ahead of Tottenham’s clash with Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League on Tuesday night.

Frank has held talks with Spurs’ hierarchy since losing to West Ham, and it looks as though the Dane’s job is safe for now.

However, the fact remains that Frank has to start turning the tide if he wants to keep hold of his job at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, especially now that ex-Spurs striker Keane is breathing down his neck.

Ferencvaros manager Keane is now the 3/1 joint-favourite to be Tottenham‘s next permanent manager, according to one major bookmaker.

Odds have been slashed on the Irishman taking charge at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium after Frank oversaw that humiliating loss against London rivals West Ham at the weekend.

Keane had two spells as a player for Spurs from 2002 to 2008 and from 2009 to 2011 and has since gone into management, overseeing Maccabi Tel Aviv from 2023 to 2024, before joining Ferencvaros last year.

As per the bookies, Keane is level with Xavi Hernandez and Xabi Alonso in the running to take charge of Spurs, with all three at 3/1.

Mauricio Pochettino (4/1) is also a major contender, with Oliver Glasner (6/1) and Ruben Amorim (6/1) on the peripheries.

Marco Silva was with the Tottenham job in the summer, and even though he’s rejected the offer to sign a new contract at Fulham, he’s a 12/1 outsider at this stage.

What’s Keane done at Ferencvaros that warrants him getting the Tottenham job?

Sure, Keane is someone who’s been at Tottenham before and understands the club’s history, and it’s fanbase – but that doesn’t mean that he should be automatically linked with what is one of the most difficult managerial jobs in English football.

Spurs fans demand a lot, and they have every right to.

Daniel Levy built a financial behemoth during his time as Tottenham’s chairman and other than winning the Europa League title last season, the North London club has continually underachieved when their finances and silverware are stacked up against one another.

Keane is untested as a manager on these shores, though he has proven himself to be a winner with both Maccabi Tel Aviv and Ferencvaros, winning league titles there in each of the last two seasons.

Robbie Keane’s managerial stats:

However, they are expected titles, with Keane taking charge of what are arguably the biggest and best clubs in Israel and Hungary.

Ferencvaros, who sold star player Alex Toth to Premier League side Bournemouth on Tuesday, are currently second in the Hungarian top flight but also sixth in the league stage of the Europa League.

In six Europa League matches, they’re unbeaten, despite playing against tough teams like Genk, RB Salzburg, Fenerbahce, Rangers and Midtjylland.

Honestly, Keane seems like a risky move. But Frank was tried and tested in the Premier League, and he’s been no good.
