‘Sack him’ – Tottenham fans lambast ‘disgraceful’ Micky van de Ven as relegation verdict is made 

Tottenham Hotspur fans have turned on Micky van de Ven after his red card in their 3-1 defeat to Crystal Palace.

The defeat was another massive blow for Spurs as they remained one point above the relegation zone after the loss.

This is despite Tottenham going 1-0 up midway through the first-half thanks to Dominic Solanke. However, a van de Ven red card saw this lead quickly collapse.

The defender dragged Ismaila Sarr to the ground inside the box, which ruined Tottenham’s match plans, and now, fans have called for the defender not to play for the club again.

Tottenham fans demand Micky van de Ven doesn’t play again

Van de Ven was the Spurs captain on the night with Cristian Romero still serving his suspension.

However, despite holding the armband, the defender showed no signs of leadership when he pulled Sarr down inside the box, which eventually led to the hosts’ collapse.

With Tottenham in massive risk of relegation, they simply could not afford any mistakes in what was a crucial fixture.

Yet, van de Ven showed no composure, and now Spurs fans have taken to X to demand that the 24-year-old is now permanently removed from the squad.

What does the future hold for van de Ven?

Football Insider recently revealed that Liverpool want van de Ven as a potential replacement for Virgil van Dijk.

However, if he oversees Spurs’ relegation to the Championship, it is hard to imagine him getting a big move in the summer.

In recent weeks, the centre-back has been terrible. Before the Palace match, in each of van de Ven’s last eight appearances for Spurs, they have conceded at least two goals.

Therefore, while the defender may feel that his time at Tottenham is coming to an end, little suggests that he can perform at a top club based on his recent displays.

His red card against Palace summed up his and Spurs’ decline in recent seasons, with the defender now set to be suspended for their trip to Anfield next weekend.
