Scott McTominay sends message to Michael Carrick after Manchester United beat Arsenal
Scott McTominay says he has ‘so much love’ for Michael Carrick after Manchester United’s 3-2 win over Arsenal.
After guiding United to a 2-0 victory at home to Manchester City in his first game in charge, Carrick followed that up with another impressive result against Mikel Arteta’s side at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday.
McTominay has extensive experience of playing alongside and being coached by Carrick before United sold him to Napoli in a £25.7 million deal in August 2024.
Asked if he surprised by Carrick’s start as United manager, McTominay replied: ‘No I’m not, to be honest. He’s such a great guy, Michael.
‘I’ve got so much love and respect for him, him and Kieran McKenna and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer helped me so much in that period where they were at Manchester United and I wish them nothing but the absolute best.
‘The two results they’ve had have been amazing, especially for me to watch. I’m very, very proud of all the players and long may it continue.

‘The games, the big ones against Arsenal and Man City are important but sometimes it’s the games that are not so easy away from home against the promoted teams or teams of so-called lesser stature which are probably just as important.
‘For me, I’m looking forward to watching them and continuing to do well and I wish them all the best.’
McTominay is now preparing for Napoli’s final game of the Champions League league phase as they host Chelsea on Wednesday evening.
When asked about the start that Liam Rosenior has made at Chelsea, ,’ McTominay said: ‘Yeah, I’m impressed, he’s obviously a really good young coach who has got good ideas.
‘For me, I wouldn’t concentrate too much on that, it’s more about what we do and what we can produce on the pitch tomorrow with the players we have on the pitch.
‘It’s going to be a great game and I’m looking forward to it.’
