Sources: Arsenal told £80m offer will be accepted
Arsenal will have to fork out over £80million if they want to sign Atletico Madrid striker Julian Alvarez this summer amid ongoing links to his services.
Alvarez has been a standout in attack for Atletico this season, with 11 goals and six assists in 31 appearances so far.
The Argentine striker bagged 29 goals in 54 games in his debut campaign for the club after leaving Man City, and he is one of the hottest properties in world football right now.
Liverpool were linked with Alvarez last year before they signed Alexander Isak, and rumours around a potential return to the Premier League have not gone away ahead of this summer.
Arsenal are set to explore a move for Alvarez ahead of next season, and as I revealed on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Transfer Insider podcast, they will have to splash the cash to seal his signature.

Alvarez set to cost upwards of £80m amid Arsenal interest
Arsenal signed Viktor Gyokeres for big money last summer, but he has flattered to deceive with just five goals in 20 Premier League appearances for the club so far.
The likes of Gabriel Jesus, Kai Havertz and Mikel Merino are also centre-forward options at Mikel Arteta’s disposal right now, but reports state that the Gunners are keeping tabs on Alvarez, who will not come cheap if he is to leave Madrid.
Speaking on the Transfer Insider podcast, I explained: “Alvarez is a top player, he’s proven that. He was South American Footballer of the Year and is Premier League proven after winning the title a couple of times with Man City.
“It’d be a huge deal for Atletico to even consider selling him as well, you’re probably looking around £80million plus for someone like him.
“He’s under contract until 2030, and there’s been talk that Atletico would look to try and tie him down to a new deal.
“If there’s any indication that Alvarez would consider a move away from Atletico, you’ll have all the biggest and best clubs in Europe ready to try and sign the Argentine.”
Arsenal unlikely to pursue Anthony Gordon move despite previous links
Arsenal have been impressive as a team this season as they chase a first Premier League title under Arteta, but their attacking players have not fired on all cylinders on a consistent basis.
Sources previously told Football Insider that Newcastle are prepared to let Gordon leave at the end of the season if they receive a big offer, with Arsenal a long-term admirer of his, alongside Liverpool.

They are now having second thoughts over a move, with Football Insider recently revealing that Arsenal are unlikely to move for Gordon this summer, despite the Magpies still being open to approaches.
Arteta is believed to be happy with his wide attacking options, while the England man has only scored two league goals this season, so they could well focus their funds on signing a new striker to properly challenge Gyokeres.
