Sources: Big name 'interested' in agreeing Man United move this month
Ruben Neves is interested in joining Man United before the end of the January transfer window if they can agree terms with Al Hilal.
The 28-year-old is out of contract at the end of the season and is interested in exploring a move back to Europe, which could happen before the January window closes.
As I revealed on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, Neves would tick a lot of boxes for Man United, but a deal will not be easy to do.
The Portugal international is on a sizeable wage over in the Saudi Pro League, reportedly around £300,000 per week, while his club are reluctant to let him leave.
However, former chief scout Mick Brown told Football Insider that Neves’ agent has contacted Man United over the possibility of a deal, and it remains a possibility.
Ruben Neves interested in Man United move
Football Insider revealed on 17 January that Neves could be available for £20million, although his wages would make a deal costly for Man United.
Meanwhile, Al Hilal are reluctant to see him leave mid-way through the season and feel he still has an important part to play in Simone Inzaghi’s side.
However, the midfielder is keen to make the move to Man United and would welcome the opportunity to discuss terms if a deal could be agreed.
Speaking on the Transfer Insider podcast, I explained: “Yeah, obviously Ruben Neves is a top midfielder. He’s done well out in the Saudi Pro League with Al Hilal.
“They don’t really want to lose him, but he is coming to the end of his contract in June and nothing has been agreed as yet, so that has opened to door for a return to Europe.
“I’m sure if the opportunity did come along, Ruben Neves would be interested in a move to Man United.

“He would be a good fit for United, he can play in that defensive midfield role, but I don’t think the Saudi Pro League club are that open to letting him leave.
“It’s a difficult deal to do, Al Hilal want a decent fee of around £20million for him, and then obviously you’ve got his wages as well.“
When Man United plan to sign top midfield targets
Football Insider revealed on 18 January that Man United could sign Elliot Anderson or Adam Wharton but will wait until the summer to pursue a deal.
Michael Carrick could be backed in other areas before the window closes, but any major spending is more likely to be reserved for the next permanent boss.
This comes after Football Insider revealed in November that Man United are unlikely to spend big in January as they continue to eye high-profile targets.

Both Wharton and Anderson rank highly on United’s list of midfield targets, with the position highlighted as a key area to address in future windows.
However, following Ruben Amorim’s dismissal and the arrival of Carrick on an interim basis, their initial priorities have now shifted.
