Sources: Danny Rohl makes Oliver Antman transfer plan at Rangers

Danny Rohl has no plans to sell Oliver Antman in the January transfer window despite suggestions he could be forced out at Ibrox.

Antman missed out on Rangers’ 5-0 win against Annan Athletic through illness, having only just returned from a spell on the sidelines with a leg issue.

However, as I revealed on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, Rohl hopes the 24-year-old will have a part to play in the second half of the season.

That is despite the addition of new wide players Andreas Skov Olsen and Tochi Chukwuani, both of whom arrived earlier in the January window.

Those deals had led to suggestions Antman could be pushed out by Rangers, but he remains a part of the manager’s plans despite the increased competition.

Could Oliver Antman be allowed to leave Rangers?

Football Insider revealed on 16 January that Rangers could accept offers for Antman as he will likely play an even further reduced role in the squad.

However, Rohl plans to utilise him as part of his squad as they continue to push forward in their pursuit of silverware both in the league and cup.

The boss hopes Antman will be able to retain his fitness in the second half of the season, where he will be able to have more of an impact on the starting XI.

Speaking on the Transfer Insider podcast, I explained: “I think he’s been a bit unlucky. He’s had injury problems recently. That’s why he’s not really been used by Danny Rohl.

“Rohl will be keen to have a look at him when he’s fully fit and then make a decision on him. I don’t think Rangers will be making any knee-jerk reactions on Oliver Antman.

“Rohl right now won’t want to weaken his squad if his side are to continue their challenge for the Scottish Premiership title as well.

“I don’t think right now that Danny Rohl will be looking to let Antman leave, especially as I said he was back on the bench against Aberdeen.

“He’ll just be hoping he can stay fit for the second half of season and get opportunities.”

Could Rangers re-sign Nathan Patterson from Everton?

Wingers are not the only additions being targeted at Rangers this month, with Rohl aiming to strengthen his squad to help bolster their title push.

The Ibrox club have been linked with a potential move to re-sign Nathan Patterson, who is out of favour under David Moyes at Everton and could leave this month.

However, Football Insider revealed on 16 January that Rangers are unlikely to sign Patterson, with righ-back not on Rohl’s list of priorities.

The 24-year-old has 18 months remaining on his contract at the Hill Dickinson Stadium and could soon be allowed to leave should the right offer arrive.

Tuur Rommens arrived at Ibrox as their left-back addition, and the focus has now turned to other areas of the squad for the second half of the season.
