Sources: Liverpool make Arne Slot sack decision

Arne Slot is now all but certain to stay on as Liverpool manager for the 2026-27 campaign, sources have told Football Insider.

The Merseyside giants’ US-based owners Fenway Sports Group are backing the Dutchman, 47, despite a tortuous campaign that has left the fans restless and calling for managerial change.

Sources say FSG plan to stick by Slot barring a catastrophic finish to the campaign, such as a run of four consecutive defeats ending their hopes of a top-five Premier League finish and Champions League qualification.

Slot had previously been under heavy pressure after a series of poor results and pedestrian performances led to calls from supporters for him to be sacked and for the available Xabi Alonso to replace him this summer.

However, the 3-1 victory over Crystal Palace on Saturday saw the club jump up to fourth in the table, and they are now eight points clear of Brighton and Hove Albion in sixth.

Now, with only one win needed to secure a Champions League position, Slot’s job at Liverpool is seen as safe.

Has Arne Slot done enough to turn the tide at Liverpool?

The 2025-26 campaign has been underwhelming for many Liverpool supporters.

Not only has the club failed to mount a successful title defence, but they will also end the season without a trophy.

Considering the money that they spent in the summer, it has been a disaster, with Slot perhaps lucky to survive.

Therefore, the pressure will no doubt be on the manager as soon as the 2026-27 campaign begins.

A poor start could see even more of the Anfield fanbase turn on Slot, with a trophy no doubt expected next season.

As a result, it is key that the manager ensures that their recent form carries on into the new season, or there could be dire consequences.

Preparation have already begun for the summer transfer window at Liverpool

Former Manchester City financial adviser Stefan Borson has exclusively told Football Insider that Liverpool plan to make £100million profit on player sales to boost their summer transfer budget.

Signings are not doubt needed at Anfield, with the Reds lacking consistent goal scorers going into the new season.

However, Borson cannot see Liverpool spending more than £250m on new arrivals after their massive 2025 summer window.

With players such as Mohamed Salah and Andy Robertson departing, on top of Hugo Ekitike being injured until 2027, the club are desperate for reinforcements.

However, it remains to be seen who Liverpool opt to bring in, with Yan Diamonde being linked in recent weeks after impressing at RB Leipzig.
