Sources: Phil Foden unhappy with Man City playing time in new contract update
Manchester City star Phil Foden could be tempted to leave the club this summer as contract talks stall amid growing frustration over his playing time under Pep Guardiola.
Foden has one year left on his contract at the Etihad Stadium, and there has been little talk of a renewal in the past few months.
The England star has fallen out of favour somewhat with Pep Guardiola, starting just one of City’s last six games across all competitions.
He does want to stay at his boyhood club, but as I revealed on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Transfer Insider podcast, a move away cannot be ruled out if he is rooted to the bench in the final stages of the campaign.
Man City’s transfer plans will have to change drastically if Foden pushes to depart, but talks over a new deal are set to advance if his minutes increase in the coming months.

Phil Foden wants more game time before committing to Man City
Foden was left on the bench for City’s 3-0 loss to Real Madrid in midweek, while he made a late cameo against West Ham but was unable to fire them to victory in that 1-1 draw.
He has still registered 13 goals and six assists in 44 games this season, but last scored against Crystal Palace in mid-December and looks set to find himself struggling for minutes as City see out the campaign.
Speaking on the Transfer Insider podcast, I explained: “Foden was on the bench against Real Madrid in that Champions League game in midweek, which we won’t be happy about.
“No player likes to miss out on big games. I think his preference would be to stay at City if a deal can be agreed.
“Obviously he’s got just over a year to run on his current contract, so I would imagine those talks are ongoing and will speed up over the coming weeks and months to try and come to a resolution to try and get an agreement between all parties as well.
“City’s preference would be for him to stay, and I’m sure Foden’s first priority is to stay as well, but the concern would be if he’s not playing regularly, could he maybe be tempted to move on?”
City are targeting Pedro Porro swoop amid Spurs relegation fears
City know they need to dip into the transfer market this summer to become more competitive across all competitions, as they close in on another season without winning the Premier League or Champions League.
A new right-back is high on the club’s list of priorities, and sources have told Football Insider that City are interested in signing Spurs’ Porro this summer.
Tottenham are in real danger of being relegated from the Premier League, with ex-Citizens man Porro set to depart if they do drop into the second-tier.
He has been one of the few standouts for Spurs across a tough campaign, with one goal and five assists in 37 appearances so far.
