Stefan Borson can't believe transfer Chelsea completed in '25 – ‘It’s absolutely bizarre’
Chelsea have been heavily scrutinised for several of their transfers over the past few years under BlueCo.
Chelsea spent heavily again last summer, with nine permanent signings arriving through the door at Stamford Bridge.
Meanwhile, Facundo Buonanotte completed a season-long loan move to Chelsea from Brighton, taking many by surprise.
However, the Blues have now terminated the loan deal, with Buonanotte joining Leeds United on loan for the remainder of the season.

Why Chelsea’s deal to sign Facundo Buonanotte never made sense
Former Man City financial adviser Stefan Borson exclusively told Football Insider it was an “absolutely bizarre” deal for Chelsea to have signed Buonanotte in the first place.
The 21-year-old made eight appearances during his short stint at Stamford Bridge, where he registered one goal and two assists.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, Borson said: “It’s an absolutely bizarre deal. It’s always been a bizarre deal, right? They brought him in from Brighton with no guarantee, so they had no agreed fee if they wanted him.
“If he performed brilliantly, they would have been in a big situation negotiating it. But it never looked like he was going to play.

“I mean, it’s very unlikely you play a player that you brought in on loan anyway. It’s just the nature of that beast is if you have got a load of players you spent big money on.
“The pressure to play the players who you spent big money on is obviously much greater, so I just can’t see how he was ever going to play.”
Chelsea loan fee speculated in Buonanotte deal
Borson speculated whether Chelsea agreed to pay Brighton a “big loan fee” as part of Buonanotte’s move to Stamford Bridge.
“I don’t understand what was in it for Brighton because if he’s not going to play, how is his value going to increase?” said Borson.
“Did they get a big loan fee? Well maybe, but why would Chelsea pay a big loan fee for a player that they can’t guarantee they’re going to sign even if he does really well? That doesn’t make any sense. I don’t know.

“It seems very strange to me that deal. I’m sure there was a logic to it, but I can’t figure it out.
“As for Leeds, well I’m sure he’s a very good player, so why wouldn’t they give it a go? Obviously, Brighton didn’t want him back, and they want to get him some football.”
Brighton signed Buonanotte from Argentine side Rosario Central in 2023, while he’s made 50 appearances during his time at the Amex Stadium.
