Stig Inge Bjornebye is Rangers’ secret weapon in bid to seal Tobias Bech transfer agreement
Rangers‘ decision not to appoint a new sporting director above Stig Inge Bjornebye should stand them in good stead to sign AGF star Tobias Bech this summer.
Andrew Cavenagh recently confirmed that they will not be appointing a new sporting director and instead plan to let new chief executive Jim Gillespie work alongside Danny Rohl and ex-Liverpool star Bjornebye.
Kevin Thelwell was sacked from his position as sporting director in November after a poor summer transfer window, with Bjornebye appointed to an advisory role a month later.
The 56-year-old former Reds man was initially given a six-month contract, but he is now set to stay longer and have a say on their summer dealings.
Rangers’ transfer plans are on hold for now as they aim to win the Premiership, but Bjornebye can use his links to his previous club to help them sign Bech following his impressive season in Denmark.

Stig Inge Bjornebye can put Rangers ahead in race for Tobias Bech
Bjornebye was the sporting director of Danish side AGF Aarhus between 2021 and 2025 before joining Rangers.
His impressive start to life at Ibrox means he will have a bigger say on their transfers this summer alongside Rohl and Gillespie, and it would not be a surprise to see him bring players from Denmark to the table in their search for fresh talent.

Bech has been one of the best attackers in the Superligaen this season, with his 11 goals in 24 matches firing AGF to the summit of the table as it stands.
The right-winger has been clinical in and around the area, outperforming his non-penalty xG by over two, and is sure to catch the eye of other European clubs this summer.
He is just 24-years-old, so fits the Gers’ current transfer model, and that existing relationship between him and Bjornebye could be exploited to land his services ahead of next season.
Which players are Rangers targeting from other Nordic countries?
Celtic have made numerous signings from Nordic countries in the last two windows, but Rangers have focused more on targeting British-based players up to now.
That could all change this summer with Bjornebye’s influence, with several already linked ahead of the next window.
Sources have told Football Insider that Rangers still want to sign Silas Andersen this summer, after failing to land him in January, but Champions League qualification will dictate whether they are the favourites to land him ahead of Celtic.
Tromso midfielder Jens Hjerto-Dahl was another who they were linked to over the winter, but a deal never materialised and they reportedly remain interested ahead of the summer.
