Supercomputer predicts Everton vs Manchester City outcome in Premier League showdown

Everton’s European hopes are in danger of going up in smoke as they face Manchester City.

It has been a torrid few weeks for David Moyes’ side, who have slipped since returning from the international break.

Two weeks ago, Virgil van Dijk rose highest to head home in stoppage time, seeing the Toffees lose the Merseyside derby.

Then a week later, the Blues would be on the end of another late winner, as Callum Wilson found the back of the net to earn all three points at Everton’s expense.

On Monday, they welcome Manchester City to Hill Dickinson Stadium – a stern test as Moyes’ men look to get back on track with four to go.

How Opta’s supercomputer predicts Everton vs Manchester City to pan out

Heading into Monday’s clash, the latest prediction from Opta’s supercomputer does not look too good for the Blues.

Handed just a 27.7 per cent chance of taking all three points, Moyes’ side are labelled firm underdogs – unsurprisingly given the form of the visitors.

Pep Guardiola’s Citizens are unbeaten since March across all competitions, while their recent win against Arsenal has allowed them fully back in the title race, with the outcome set to be decided by goal difference on the final day should the pair continue to win.

What are Everton’s European chances?

While the Toffees have fallen out of form in recent weeks, the chance is still there for them to end the season well.

As per Opta’s supercomputer again, the Blues have been handed a 12.38 per cent chance of finishing eighth in the Premier League – a position that would come with the reward of a Conference League spot.

And while the chances are slimmer, they have been allocated tallies of 8.54 and 3.56 of finishing in either seventh or sixth in the division.

Though, these figures are only going to continue shrinking as the final rounds approach, and are entirely dependent on the results of others, as with Everton themselves.

The Toffees will be kicking themselves after recent weeks, with European football hanging there to be grabbed for the majority of the campaign.

Instead, others have found their form at the wrong time, while Everton have completely lost theirs.
