Thomas Frank must push to sign Man City star immediately after what Archie Gray did vs Brentford

Archie Gray was incredibly disappointing in Tottenham’s 0-0 draw with Brentford on Thursday.

Thomas Frank remains under huge pressure after Tottenham played out a dreadful stalemate at the Gtech Community Stadium.

The result leaves Spurs 12th in the table, and with Chelsea, Liverpool and Man United all dropping points, it represents a huge missed opportunity to close the gap on the top four.

Frank used Gray in the number 10 position, and it was clear to see that the 19-year-old was completely out of his depth.

A huge amount of responsibility has already been placed on him in a Tottenham shirt, and Frank has to push ahead to sign the versatile Omar Marmoush in order to play Gray in his more natural position of defensive midfield.

Omar Marmoush has to become a priority for Tottenham

Marmoush has emerged as a leading candidate to join Spurs, with the Egyptian not featuring consistently for Man City this season.

Although Spurs have also been linked with Man City wingers Oscar Bobb and Savinho, Marmoush would certainly be the ideal player for Frank.

After moving to Manchester from Frankfurt in January 2024, the 26-year-old enjoyed a promising first six months.

However, Marmoush has since fallen down the pecking order as Rayan Cherki and Phil Foden continue to impress, and Spurs now have an opportunity to sign a game-changer in the final third.

Against Brentford, Gray had the fewest touches (27) of any outfield player to play 90 minutes, and he also failed to win a single ground duel.

Ultimately, the blame falls on Frank for completely misusing Gray in the match, and while Xavi Simons is out serving a suspension, Spurs still need depth in attacking midfield, and the Man City ace would undoubtedly start over the Dutchman.

Marmoush can play in every position across the front line and has proven himself to be a dangerous player in the top flight, something very few players in the world possess.

This issue could have been entirely avoided, but with Gray getting criticism from fans for his performance, Frank can’t make that mistake again.

Thomas Frank’s pragmatism will get him sacked

It says a lot about Frank’s mentality at Spurs when he named Joao Palhinha and Rodrigo Bentancur in the starting lineup.

The last time they started together was in Tottenham’s humiliating 4-1 defeat to Arsenal, and it’s clear that they haven’t struck up a good partnership.

Gray was brilliant against Crystal Palace on 28 December, scoring his first senior goal in 112 appearances as Spurs secured an important 1-0 win.

To move him further forward straight after producing one of his best performances in a Tottenham shirt is a baffling decision, and it hindered Spurs’ attacking threat massively.

If Frank continues to play things safe, then his future in N17 won’t last long at all.

However, the arrival of a player as good as Marmoush could spark a huge upturn in form, and he is definitely a player that would help Spurs thrive.
