Tottenham: Bart Verbruggen to jump at chance for ‘brilliant’ Roberto De Zerbi reunion, Brighton deal could be on

Tottenham Hotspur will surely have no trouble when it comes to convincing Bart Verbruggen to join them this summer if they remain in the Premier League.

The Brighton goalkeeper has already emerged as a transfer target for the Lilywhites, just one day after they moved to appoint Roberto De Zerbi as their new manager on a long-term contract.

The North Londoners are facing a huge battle on their hands to secure their top flight status between now and the end of the season, but if they beat the drop, then they could move for the Dutchman, with De Zerbi still a big fan, according to talkSPORT.

Verbruggen is facing an uncertain future at the Amex Stadium, with Newcastle also recently linked with a move to prise him away from the South Coast.

Tottenham’s transfer plans are set to see them prioritise a new number one goalkeeper to replace Guglielmo Vicario ahead of next season, and De Zerbi’s relationship with Verbruggen could see them gain an edge.

Bart Verbuggen has hailed Roberto De Zerbi multiple times

Praise from former players has already become common immediately after De Zerbi’s appointment in North London, as several of his old Brighton squad have taken the chance to praise the Italian.

Verbruggen’s previous comments show his admiration for the 46-year-old and the role that he plays as a leader for his teams, and that could potentially have a big impact on his future this summer.

The shot-stopper referred to the new Spurs man as a “brilliant manager” during an interview with Sky Sports back in 2024, and he couldn’t praise him highly enough for the way that he treats his players.

“He makes you want to work harder and harder and harder. And that’s not just me. I see it happening for everybody around me in the team as well,” Verbruggen said.

“He also prepares you for the games so well. He says stuff to you, like ‘You can expect this, you can expect that’. And then, come gameday, you see it happening in front of you.”

That is surely a clear indication that he would jump at the chance to reunite with his former boss and strike up that relationship again if the opportunity arose this summer.

If Tottenham can drag themselves clear of the relegation zone in the coming weeks, then they would surely find it easy to convince the gloveman to make the move.

How would Brighton react to Tottenham move?

Former Everton and Aston Villa chief executive Keith Wyness recently told Football Insider that it will take £50million to sign Verbruggen this summer, as Brighton are keen to ensure they get good value for their number one.

That represents a significant outlay for Spurs or any other interested parties, but De Zerbi and Co. are set to be boosted by the fact that the sale of Vicario should help to raise funds.

However, despite their high asking price, talkSPORT have revealed that the Seagulls are “relaxed” about Verbruggen’s situation, as they have Carl Rushworth returning from his loan spell with Coventry.

With that in mind, they are unlikely to be totally against the idea of selling Verbruggen to Tottenham, meaning that there could ultimately be a level of willingness from all parties to do business.
