Tottenham could do the unthinkable as Ange Postecoglou rescue mission now touted

Tottenham have been urged to swallow their pride and reappoint Ange Postecoglou.

Igor Tudor was appointed as interim head coach on a deal running until the end of the season, but speculation is already building that he could be sacked.

The supposed ‘firefighter’ was brought in to save Spurs’ season after Thomas Frank’s nightmare tenure, but three straight defeats have piled on the pressure.

Performances against Arsenal, Fulham and Crystal Palace have been dismal, with the most recent loss leading to a mass exodus at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium before half-time.

Now, Spurs have been told they must turn to former manager Postecoglou or risk relegation.

Could Ange Postecoglou make Tottenham return?

Ange Postecoglou was controversially handed his marching orders just weeks after steering Tottenham to Europa League glory last season – their first trophy in 17 years.

Bringing an end to that trophy drought galvanised and unified the club, and it has been suggested that Spurs desperately need a similar miracle to save them from the drop.

According to The Sun‘s Tom Barclay, Postecoglou is the only “viable” candidate to stitch back together a “fragile” squad clearly overwhelmed by what is at stake.

Barclay has pointed to the glowing show of support he received from players after being dismissed, and claimed a short-term deal until the end of the season could work.

That, he believes, could even set the stage for an extraordinary third campaign in charge.

Regardless of Tudor’s immediate future or his potential replacement in the dugout, the squad must take collective responsibility and stand up and be counted.

Igor Tudor already fighting for Tottenham future

The writing is on the wall for Tudor, less than a month after he arrived at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. Performances have been poor, and the results have been worse.

While he will oversee Spurs’ upcoming Champions League last-16 first leg against Atletico Madrid, his future beyond that is far from guaranteed.

A daunting trip to Liverpool then awaits, capping off two brutal fixtures likely to spell the end for the Croat.

Unsurprisingly, Spurs’ board do not want to part ways with the 47-year-old, but they could return to the drawing board to ensure their Premier League survival.

Sean Dyche, Robbie Keane and Harry Redknapp are all names linked with the job, and either one of them could find themselves parachuted into a relegation dogfight in the next week.
