Tottenham expert backs 'invisible' Spurs star to start vs Wolves for 'lucky' reason

Dominic Solanke is expected to start Tottenham Hotspur‘s next game with Wolves despite his recent performances.

The striker has found the back of the net once in his last nine matches, in the 3-1 loss to Crystal Palace in March.

He is yet to score under Roberto De Zerbi, and he needs to step up, if Spurs are to avoid relegation to the Championship.

The England hopeful has notched three goals in 14 Premier League appearances this season, and he needs to add that tally significantly before the campaign concludes.

Tottenham will hope that he can, as that is their best chance of survival.

Why Solanke will start in Tottenham vs Wolves

John Wenham believes that Solanke will start Tottenham’s crucial clash with the Old Gold, due to a stroke of luck.

Speaking exclusively to Tottenham News, he said: “He was basically invisible against Sunderland, and that was really disappointing, and I’ll be honest, I thought he was quite poor in the Brighton game.

“He’s a player that I’ve picked out many times before. I still think he’s our best striker, but I think he’ll count himself lucky that we can’t keep changing things, with just five games to go.

“I think he will start the game at Wolves and be given another opportunity, but he could really do with grabbing himself a goal as well.”

Where has it gone wrong for Solanke?

Solanke’s struggles this season are primarily due to injury issues.

The forward has missed a total of 33 matches for club and country after undergoing ankle surgery in September.

That has not allowed him to get any rhythm, and the fact that the team have been struggling has not helped him since he came back into the action.

De Zerbi needs him to find something urgently, because he cannot justify his selection using the lucky reason that Wenham has suggested.

The manager can’t hope that the former Bournemouth man miraculously returns to form to save his team, that is not how the game works.

He needs momentum and confidence, and the only way that he will get that is to score again, and it could open up the floodgates for the 28-year-old.
