View: Moyes point proven at Everton after what Liverpool player did in Merseyside derby
David Moyes recently affirmed his wish to bring through more Scousers into Everton’s first team, and the Merseyside derby proved every reason why he wants that.
Local heroes being made at clubs is the stuff of dreams in the football world. There is nothing better than a young talent who grew up on the streets and went to games every week putting on the shirt and delivering memories for supporters.
While every footballer will try their hardest for the clubs that employ them, for local players, performing for their team, in their city, holds greater significance.
Currently at Hill Dickinson, there is a lack of talent that could become that player, with Harrison Armstrong the only Scouse player in the Toffees’ ranks.
Moyes’ wish of bringing through more like Armstrong makes sense, but it was further proven by what happened in the Merseyside derby involving Curtis Jones.

How did Curtis Jones prove David Moyes’ point?
Everton supporters growing up in the streets of Liverpool will have dreamt of those big derby days and having a chance to enrich their name in Toffees folklore.
It is one of the biggest games on both Everton’s and Liverpool’s calendars, and while most football fans understand the importance of a derby, none know it more than those that have grown up with it.
Everton’s academy players named in first-team squad this season Place of birth Harrison Armstrong Liverpool Harry Tyrer* Liverpool Malik Olayiwola England (Location TBD) Braiden Graham Northern Ireland Callum Bates Bury Tyler Onyango Luton Reece Welch Huddersfield Elijah Campbell Manchester
It is a fact that might have been proven true as the Blues faced heartbreak at Hill Dickinson in the recent showdown.
According to Squawka, Jones won possession 16 times, more than double any Everton player and the highest that weekend of fixtures.
What makes this interesting is that Jones is a Liverpool-born player, and he understands more than most how big a Merseyside derby is for both sets of fans.
Having players willing to go to the lengths that the midfielder was willing to go to in providing his side the ball is vital in matches of this magnitude.
This is a concept Moyes completely understands. In an interview with Jamie Carragher, Moyes stated: “I definitely want to bring through more Scouse boys.”
Before later going on to say, “I used to say to my players: ‘You watch that ******* Carragher and Gerrard, they’ll be kicking us in the first 30 seconds!’”
It is that desire that can often win games, and the Blues do not have much of that in their squad. A lack of that desire was clear with Barry’s attitude, who clearly did not understand what was at stake for fans.

Who could Everton’s next local hero be?
Of course, Armstrong looks to be the leading contender, with the West Derby-born player currently in the Everton squad.
But in truth, the Everton under-21s do have a lack of Scouse-born talent amidst the ranks.
Joel Catesby, a 19-year-old winger, is the only Merseyside local, having been born in Birkenhead. Other than that, it is a mix of players coming from other areas of England and the world.
Overall, Armstrong looks to be in a strong position to be the next local Scouse gem for the Toffees.
