Tottenham find Guglielmo Vicario upgrade for bargain fee as Thomas Frank issue solved

Guglielmo Vicario may not be Tottenham’s goalkeeper for much longer.

Vicario’s awful run of form for Spurs leaves him at a crossroads in his career, and the 29-year-old’s spell in North London could come to an end in January.

Concerns have been raised about Vicario‘s ability when playing out from the back, and he has faced intense scrutiny from Tottenham fans for his distribution.

Thomas Frank is eyeing up another goalkeeper after the Italian’s mistakes against Fulham and Nottingham Forest at the end of 2025, and he desperately needs a shot-stopper that he can trust.

Tottenham keep an eye on Toulouse goalkeeper Guillaume Restes

Brighton goalkeeper Bart Verbruggen is linked with Tottenham, while Marc-Andre ter Stegen is another name that has been touted for a surprise move to North London.

Either way, Vicario’s days at Tottenham are numbered, and if they are going to replace him with someone, Guillaume Restes is a solid replacement who can develop into a world-class goalkeeper.

French outlet Media Foot reports that Tottenham are actively pursuing Restes in order to improve on their current number one option.

He has made a name for himself as one of Ligue 1’s brightest prospects and is valued at roughly £17.4m (€20m).

Spurs face competition for his signature, with both West Ham and Newcastle also interested.

Young goalkeepers are hard to come by in this generation, but 20-year-old Restes is one of the few who have burst onto the scene in recent years.

Why Restes is a huge upgrade on Guglielmo Vicario

He made his first start for Toulouse as an 18-year-old and has since been irreplaceable in goal.

At an international level, he has had a quick rise through the age groups, and currently starts for the France U23s.

Given the fact that Toulouse are a much weaker team than Spurs, Restes is roughly equalling Vicario’s stats.

He also has a 38.2 per cent long ball accuracy compared to Vicario’s 32.2 per cent, and he would be a much better fit for Frank and his direct style of football.

Restes has a lot of time to grow, and if Tottenham have serious ambitions, they’ll secure themselves another January signing over their Premier League rivals.
