Tottenham make approach to sign their ‘dream’ midfielder after Conor Gallagher

Tottenham have secured the signing of Conor Gallagher but Thomas Frank is eager for more.

Gallagher’s switch to Tottenham from Atletico Madrid was confirmed on Wednesday, with the midfielder moving to North London for a reported fee of £34million.

The England international only joined Diego Simeone’s side in the summer of 2024, after leaving Chelsea, but is now back in the Premier League.

However, Spurs are still looking to add to their midfield ranks, even after the addition of Gallagher, and have identified the perfect target.

Adam Wharton the ‘dream signing’ for Tottenham

Tottenham have been big admirers of Adam Wharton for some time, and they are once again keeping tabs on the midfielder in the January window.

The likes of Manchester United have also been credited with an interest in the Crystal Palace man, who is tipped to have a very bright future ahead of him.

According to TeamTalk, Tottenham have made initial moves towards signing Wharton, working to understand the possibilities of a deal.

Despite bringing Gallagher in, Spurs are still in the market for a deep-lying playmaker, and Wharton is the dream option to fill that role.

It will be an extremely difficult deal for Frank’s side to do in the January window, as Palace are reluctant to part ways with one of their best players, but the North London outfit could push hard for the England international in the summer.

Can Tottenham win the race for Adam Wharton?

Tottenham will be far from the only side targeting Wharton when the summer window opens, and will have to fight off some of the biggest clubs around Europe to win the race for his signature.

Spurs have a recent history of failing to get their targets over the line though, losing out to Arsenal in their pursuit of Eberechi Eze last summer.

Given their current Premier League position, sitting 14th in the table, Wharton is unlikely to choose the North London side over the likes of Liverpool.

Premier League table

Therefore, Tottenham will have to put together a run of form in the latter stages of the season if they want to bring in the Palace star, or any other big names.

If Frank’s side miss out on European football entirely, they will have almost no pull compared to their Premier League rivals.
