Tottenham: Relegation cracks already starting to show as £50m exit mooted for Pape Matar Sarr

Tottenham Hotspur are already facing the prospect of losing Pape Sarr ahead of the summer.

The threat of relegation isn’t going anywhere after falling to a 1-0 defeat away to Sunderland in Roberto De Zerbi’s opening game.

With West Ham and Leeds United both winning, the North London club are now sitting inside the bottom three with just six games to go.

That has unsurprisingly kick-started exit rumours for various stars who are unlikely to play Championship football if they fall into the second tier.

There could be a mass exodus from N17 this summer, with Sarr potentially set to leave Tottenham for a sizable fee.

Pape Sarr attracting interest from European elite

The Senegal international has been one of the better performers at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium this season, although that isn’t saying much.

He has been a regular under various managers and continued that as he came off the bench in the defeat against Sunderland in De Zerbi’s first outing.

Things obviously didn’t go well at the Stadium of Light, and now a drop out of the Premier League looks increasingly likely.

That has piqued the interest of various European giants in Sarr, with Real Madrid, PSG, and Bayern Munich all keeping tabs on his future, according to Caught Offside.

The online outfit has suggested that Spurs don’t want to sell the 23-year-old, but a departure could still be on the table in the summer.

A fee in the region of £50million may prove to be enough to break Spurs’ resolve and allow the midfielder to depart.

Tottenham could sanction an exit for Sarr regardless of division as they begin to accept the reality of their current situation.

When could Sarr leave Tottenham?

It doesn’t appear that the Senegalese ace is pushing for a summer exit, but his hand may be forced by the Lilywhites.

Relegation to the Championship would force a hard reset at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, and the sale of a £50m player would go some way towards making up for the financial blow.

That could prompt Sarr to join one of Real Madrid, PSG, and Bayern Munich when the window opens at the end of the season.

If Spurs can avoid relegation and remain in the Premier League, they may be able to keep hold of the midfielder for the long term.

There are plenty of decisions to make, but it will all hinge on what De Zerbi can do with this squad between now and the end of the campaign.
