Tottenham set to raid Sunderland for this season’s breakout star

Tottenham have had a whirlwind winter transfer window as Thomas Frank fights to keep his job in North London.

Spurs have managed to get two deals over the line, but have also missed out on a number of targets.

Conor Gallagher was Tottenham’s first signing of the month, coming in from Atletico Madrid for around £34million, with Santos left-back Souza following closely behind.

However, Andy Robertson is expected to stay at Liverpool, despite having talks with Frank’s side, with the Reds unable to bring Kostas Tsimikas back to Anfield.

Tottenham are now eyeing a new target who has been a breakout star this season at one Premier League club.

Tottenham track Robin Roefs as Guglielmo Vicario replacement

Guglielmo Vicario is attracting interest from Inter Milan and could be set to leave North London next summer.

The Italian shot-stopper has made a number of high-profile mistakes this season, but has also been badly let down by the defence in front of him.

He has kept seven clean sheets in the Premier League, conceding 31 goals in total.

If Vicario does end up leaving Tottenham, talkSPORT are reporting that the Lilywhites could make a swoop for Sunderland goalkeeper Robin Roefs.

Frank’s side are tracking the 23-year-old who only joined the Black Cats last summer, moving from NEC Nijmegen for £11million.

Robin Roefs has been a revelation for Sunderland

Roefs has been one of the standout shot-stoppers in the Premier League this season.

The Dutchman has been a key figure in Sunderland’s superb start to the campaign, and is a big reason why the Black Cats are so far clear of the relegation zone.

Roefs came into the Premier League as a fairly unknown quantity, but it is fair to say that he’s now on everyone’s radar.

Tottenham supporters would probably jump at the opportunity to swap Vicario for Roefs, given the contrasting seasons the pair have had.

However, the Sunderland shot-stopper is still in the early stages of his Premier League career, so Spurs will be keeping a close eye on his performances to see if he can maintain a high level for the rest of the campaign.
