Tottenham to be back at square one if Ryan Mason placed back in charge
A Ryan Mason return would put Tottenham Hotspur straight back at square one as they look to recover from their ongoing crisis.
Certain bookmakers have set the odds at 10/1 regarding Mason replacing Igor Tudor, with Mauricio Pochettino and Roberto De Zerbi also mentioned.
The 34-year-old has taken charge of Spurs twice on an interim basis, before he was sacked by West Bromwich Albion at the turn of the year following a poor stint in his first full-time job.
The former midfielder knows North London inside and out, but another stint in charge simply cannot be the way forward for the Lilywhites.
With Tudor already facing sack threats after three successive losses, Spurs may be called into managerial action once again – placing Mason in charge would put them back at square one.

New Tottenham era has not gone as planned
Mason was first put in charge in April 2021, taking over until the end of the 2020-21 season following the sacking of Jose Mourinho.
He would lead the club into the new era under Nuno Espirito Santo – an era that lasted just months, before the Portuguese coach was sacked after 17 matches in charge.
He would then take charge once again in 2023 following the sackings of Antonio Conte and Cristian Stellini, the duo put in post following Nuno’s departure.
The common theme is that Spurs have continued to embark on a new, fresh start since the departure of Pochettino in 2019.
Mourinho, Nuno, Conte, Ange Postecoglou, and Thomas Frank have all since been and gone, having been unable to get the club firing on all cylinders despite achieving success elsewhere.
The current campaign was set to be one of progress after the trophy hoodoo came to an end last May, but that has been far from the case.
All a Mason return would do is signify that Tottenham as a club are well and truly back at square one with the project.
Tottenham cannot keep returning to Mason amid identity crisis
Spurs’ managerial appointments have lacked real sense in recent years.
With the list of names above in mind, it would he hard to find a crop of coaches who contrast more with one another.
This has resulted in the current situation, as Spurs sit just outside the relegation zone with a squad that is, in essence, an amalgamation of multiple managers’ ideas.

Mason being placed back in charge would be a full-circle moment.
Since his last stint in 2023, projects have failed under both Postecoglou and Frank, while Tudor has been unable to get anything out of his side across his first three matches.
If Tottenham are to secure their Premier League safety, they need a full reset over the summer.
A new man will be required to take charge, and Spurs need to decide their new direction and stick to that path – otherwise the same situation will arise down the line once again.
