Trent Alexander-Arnold linked with shock Premier League move amid Real Madrid struggles
Trent Alexander-Arnold’s move to Real Madrid has not gone as he hoped and there is interest in bringing him back to the Premier League, according to reports.
The 27-year-old left Liverpool for the Spanish giants last summer as his contract came to an end at Anfield.
The England international spent his whole career with the Reds up to that point, but left to take on a new challenge in Spain, with Real paying around £8.4m to sign him just before his deal expired.
There may have been very little transfer fee, but it was a high profile signing as Alexander-Arnold left the Premier League champions to link up with his England teammate Jude Bellingham at the Santiago Bernabeu.
Things have not gone to plan since then, with the versatile right-back and occasional midfielder starting just five La Liga games so far this season.
Injury has hampered Alexander-Arnold’s progress, while there is also competition for places in the team and Federico Valverde and club captain Dani Carvajal also playing at right-back.
Despite signing for arguably the biggest club on the planet last year, Alexander-Arnold has only played once for England under current boss Thomas Tuchel and his place at the World Cup this summer is in doubt.

With just 11 appearances in all competitions so far this campaign, doubts have been raised about his future in Madrid and a move back to England has been mooted, but not to his former club.
TEAMtalk report that Manchester City have Alexander-Arnold on their radar and are considering a move to bring him back to the Premier League.
The former Liverpool hero signed a six-year contract with Real Madrid last summer, so despite costing next to nothing, they could still demand a hefty transfer fee if they were to sell him.
Manchester City are in the market for a new right-back, having played Matheus Nunes in the position for the majority of the season.
The Portugal international has adapted pretty well to playing in defence, but was brought in as a midfielder when signed from Wolves in 2023.
City manager Pep Guardiola has come up against Alexander-Arnold many times and hailed his skills as a midfielder when Liverpool beat his side 2-0 in February last year.
‘We tried to play good high pressing and clear long balls as soon as possible,’ Guardiola said after the defeat at the Etihad.
‘That happened, but [Trent] Alexander-Arnold is maybe one of the best midfield players in the world.
‘From linking [play] inside to linking in behind with Salah it is difficult to control.’
Alexander-Arnold is currently out of action with a hamstring injury suffered in December, expected to return in February.
