Trevoh Chalobah latest: Liam Rosenior reveals ankle sprain blow for Chelsea star vs PSG

Chelsea boss Liam Rosenior has revealed that Trevoh Chalobah has sprained his ankle after he had to be stretchered off in their Champions League loss to PSG.

Chalobah went down in agony after a clash with Achraf Hakimi in the 83rd minute of PSG’s 3-0 win at Stamford Bridge.

He immediately called out for the attention of the Chelsea physio team after going down, and had to be stretchered off the pitch minutes later as the hosts played out the rest of the game with 10 men.

Rosenior is now down on numbers at the back, with Reece James, Levi Colwill and Malo Gusto all already unavailable for this game.

Chelsea’s defensive injuries look to be racking up as the season draws to a close, and the manager has spoken out about Chalobah’s woes.

What has Liam Rosenior said about Trevoh Chalobah’s injury?

Chalobah has played regularly for Chelsea at centre-back this season, with this being his 46th appearance of the campaign and sixth Champions League start so far.

He was linked away from the club in January, but Rosenior decided against letting him go, and he had played the full 90 minutes in nine of their previous 10 games before Tuesday.

Speaking to the media about Chalobah’s new injury blow, the Blues boss said: “Trevoh, I just asked the medical team. He’s got a high ankle sprain, so I’m praying it’s nothing too serious because we can’t lose another defender.”

It is unclear when Rosenior expects Chalobah to be back fit, but he is almost certainly not going to be available for their next match against Everton this weekend.

Chalobah could miss out on the World Cup after latest blow

England manager Thomas Tuchel was watching on at Stamford Bridge as Chalobah had to be stretchered off.

He will likely have been watching the 26-year-old with the intent to call him up to his next Three Lions squad for friendlies against Uruguay and Japan, which is set to be named on Friday.

That is certainly unlikely to happen now, with the international break just a week away, and the extent of Chalobah’s injury could even rule him out of this summer’s World Cup.

Football Insider recently revealed that Aston Villa were interested in Chalobah, but any summer move away from Chelsea could also be put on the back burner if he is out for several months.
