'Unfair' - Pundit disagrees with what's said about Rohl, says Ibrox future should be set

Rangers can’t sack Danny Rohl if he’s unable to win the William Hill Premiership title this season.

Gordon Dalziel believes the German manager deserves to remain in charge of the Gers even if their campaign ends without silverware.

The Light Blues travel to Tynecastle Park on 1 May and dropping points against Hearts could be detrimental to the 37-year-old head coach’s title hopes.

Dalziel argues that the former Sheffield Wednesday boss’ work at Ibrox can’t be diminished, getting the Glaswegian outfit back into title contention from being 13 points behind the league leaders when he was appointed.

Andrew Cavenagh is expected to back Rohl and those supporters who may want him replaced in the summer have been urged to consider the circumstances under which he took over the Govan side.

Danny Rohl success a double-edged sword at Rangers

Speaking on Clyde 1 Superscoreboard on 2 May after Hugh Keevins suggested Rohl will be blamed for the Gers’ title failure, Dalziel said, “I think that’s a bit unfair considering where he’s brought them from. They’re still in the title race.

“Yes, I think if they lose on Monday, you can forget them. I know that Rangers fans will be disappointed, but changing Rangers from where he’s taken them from, I think he’s entitled to another season even if he doesn’t win a title.”

Before Rohl’s appointment at Ibrox, most fans acknowledged that the squad wasn’t good enough to win anything this season.

Russell Martin had a nightmarish tenure at the Light Blues and everyone had counted them out of the title race.

Now, with four games to go, the Govan side still have a chance of ending the season by winning number 56 on the final day at Falkirk if they win all their fixtures.

The German manager has made significant improvements at the Glaswegian outfit, but that may ultimately work against him, as fans now expect more.

Andrew Cavenagh to have questions at Ibrox

Cavenagh and Rohl are already making plans for the summer and it would be shocking for Rangers to replace him before the 2026-27 campaign, no matter what happens.

The American owners have invested heavily at the Gers and put their money where their mouth is in the previous two transfer windows.

Cavenagh and 49ers Enterprises will surely thoroughly review the campaign after the final day and question the German manager over some of the recruitment decisions.

Fans in G51 are praying for the good times to return to the Glaswegian outfit and the German manager has shown some encouraging signs during his initial months in Govan.
