Tottenham succumbed to another Premier League defeat as they were beaten 2-1 by Burnley on Saturday afternoon.

Thomas Frank had eased the sack pressure at Tottenham after the win over Borussia Dortmund on 20 January, but his side were not good enough in the league.

Spurs moved up one place to 13th in the division with Cristian Romero’s late equaliser making sure that Micky Van de Ven‘s opener did not go to waste, after goals from Axel Tuanzebe and Lyle Foster put the hosts ahead.

The result means that Crystal Palace and Bournemouth and Leeds United can overtake the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium outfit, if they beat Chelsea and Liverpool respectively.

Burnley vs Tottenham match stats

Micky van de Ven stuns as Tottenham draw

Micky Van de Ven is arguably Tottenham’s standout player at the moment, and he showed that again against the Clarets.

The Dutchman scored the first goal of the contest with a smart finish, and also recorded an 86 per cent pass accuracy, per Sofascore.

He made three tackles and won all three, and also made two recoveries and one interception in a solid defensive showing.

In terms of duels, the 24-year-old won three of the four that he attempted on the ground and the only one that he contested in the air, for 75 per cent and 100 per cent success rates.

Frank needs more of his players to step up like the former Wolfsburg man has recently, otherwise he may be out of a job in the near future.

Pedro Porro dismal as Tottenham draw

Pedro Porro was brilliant as Tottenham beat Dortmund, but that was not the case as he returned to league action.

The Spaniard struggled and was replaced by Destiny Udogie after the half-time break, although it is unknown whether that was due to an injury issue.

It may well have been purely performance-based though, as he was not up to his usual standards on this occasion.

The 26-year-old recorded a 70 per cent pass accuracy, misplacing 12 of his 40 attempted passes in the contest.

Defensively, he made just four contributions and won just one of the five ground duels that he contested, for a 20 per cent success rate.

Frank needs him to be better if he is to turn around Spurs’ campaign, and get them to where they want to be.
