View: Danny Rohl value shown as Rangers boss plays 'key role' in contract decision

Danny Rohl is reported as having played a ‘key role’ in convincing academy talent Ashton Scally to sign his first professional contract with Rangers.

The German head coach has helped turn Rangers’ form and season around after the disastrous reign of Russell Martin.

Of course, there have been some hiccups of his own along the way, but for the most part, it’s now night and day to what things were like during the first few months of the season at Ibrox.

He’s connected with his players and is now getting considerably more out of many of them, whilst also routinely hearing his name sung by the Gers faithful both home and away.

As such, he looks sure to be backed significantly in the summer transfer window, but that isn’t going to prevent Rangers’ most talented youngsters from seeing a pathway to the first-team either.

Danny Rohl ‘key’ to Ashton Scally signing Rangers contract

Only in recent days was it announced that Scally was part of Rangers’ training camp for their trip to Spain ahead of the post-split fixtures.

The recently-turned 16-year-old left-back is regarded as one of Gers’ most promising academy talents, and is tipped for a very bright future indeed.

So, Ibrox chiefs will be delighted to have secured his signature for the long-term, as confirmed via a report from the Daily Record on Monday.

The report states that Scally has signed his first professional contract with Rangers, inking a three-year deal to commit his future to the Gers.

It’s also claimed that the likes of Liverpool, Arsenal, Manchester City and Tottenham were all hunting his signature respectively, showing just how highly-rated the young defender is.

Nine months is the reported timescale of how long this contract has been in the works, with offers on the table from both English clubs and teams from abroad respectively.

However, the report concludes by stating that Rohl played a ‘key role’ in convincing Scally that Rangers was the right place to continue his development.

Scally contract shows why Rohl is Rangers’ biggest asset

Young players are the future of any football club, and so when there’s testimony over a manager playing a big role in their reasoning behind committing to said team, that’s always a strong indication you’ve got a good one.

And in Rohl, Rangers have a head coach that youngsters and senior veterans alike love and want to play for, which can’t be said for too many of Gers’ recent offerings in the dug out.

He’s got Rangers on the verge of their first Scottish Premiership title since 2021, has the approval of both academy talents and first-team stars alike, all at only 36-years-old.

It can be easy to forget just how young the German is, but make no mistake, he’s the best chance Rangers have had in some time of leading the football club into a bright and successful future once again.
