View: Everton could get UCL football in seventh place, but fans will not like how

Everton could secure Champions League football for next season by finishing seventh in the Premier League.

The Toffees are currently embroiled in the battle for European places, with the potential that as far as eighth place could secure a spot.

That will depend on a team in the top five winning the FA Cup, pushing the Europa League place back into the league standings.

Qualification to Europe this campaign would be the first time the Blues have featured in a UEFA competition since the 2017-2018 season.

Everton’s match against Chelsea will be crucial in the race for Europe, as David Moyes’ side are just five points behind the Londoners.

How Everton could qualify for Champions League in seventh place

England could end up with seven teams in the Champions League next season, with one of those being the seventh-place side in the Premier League.

BBC Sport correspondent Dale Johnson has shared a scenario that sees one of England’s Champions League spots pushed down the league order.

If Aston Villa finish in fifth and go all the way in the Europa League and Liverpool finish sixth and win the Champions League, due to the Premier League currently holding the extra European spot from UEFA, it would pass down to seventh place.

Of course, this would be a bitter pill to swallow for Everton fans. On one hand, they would enter Europe’s top competition with plenty of financial and sporting benefits.

Everton's last time qualified for Champions League

Everton would be able to attract better players in the summer window and really use it as a platform to launch from.

But on the other, it does require their rivals to have success and win one of the biggest honours in world football.

What are the chances of Aston Villa and Liverpool success in Europe?

Everton would need those two teams to finish in fifth and sixth place which could be a likely outcome based on the league table at the moment.

However, when it comes to their chances of winning their respective tournaments, the supercomputer has provided its verdict.

Unai Emery’s Aston Villa are the favourites for the Europa League, coming in with a 30.31 per cent chance of lifting the trophy.

Meanwhile, out of the eight remaining teams in the Champions League, Liverpool are the sixth favourites to lift the trophy.

Everton’s rivals have been given a 8.03 per cent chance of success in the Champions League.

Overall, it would be a tough hand to juggle for Evertonians, with Liverpool’s success having a chance to benefit the Toffees this season.
