Everton haven’t seen the best of Charly Alcaraz since signing him permanently from Flamengo in the summer.

The Argentine joined the Toffees on an initial loan deal over 12 months ago and impressed as a temporary member of David Moyes’ squad.

That prompted a deal in the region of £13million which appeared to represent good value at the time for a useful part of the squad.

His form has been hampered by injuries this campaign, and other names have become more regularly favoured on Merseyside.

Everton could now turn their attention to Imran Louza ahead of the summer, leaving Alcaraz with no chance but to prove himself in L3.

How can Charly Alcaraz prove himself at Everton?

After contributing five goals in just 16 outings during his temporary stint, it made sense to bring him in permanently.

The midfielder has contributed just two goal involvements this campaign, marking a drop off from his debut year with the Blues.

Moyes has preferred the likes of Idrissa Gueye, James Garner, Harrison Armstrong and Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall in midfield this season, limiting Alcaraz to just six starts.

He has hardly shown his best in that time, with his last starting XI space coming in the Hill Dickinson Stadium defeat against Arsenal.

The 23-year-old featured across 75 minutes but was unable to create a single chance in that time and took just three shots.

An expected goal tally of just 0.18 is hardly anything to write home about, especially while failing to contribute a single block, clearance or interception on Merseyside.

A 33 per cent duel win rate only makes his performance look worse and only makes Moyes’ reasoning clearer.

Everton are now preparing to face Brentford and have seven Premier League games remaining, meaning Alcaraz has to prove himself in that spell before the summer window begins.

Imran Louza could replace Alcaraz for £12m

The Blues are certainly going to turn to the transfer market at the end of the campaign, especially if they qualify for European competition.

A revolution could be in the pipeline if a place in the Europa League or Conference League is sealed, and that may well start with Louza.

French outlet Foot Mercato reported on Thursday that he could be open to a move away from Watford in the summer, with a £12m valuation already mooted.

That deal could make total sense for everyone involved, but only if Alcaraz is to move on at the end of a disappointing year in L3.

A way of stopping that could be for the Argentine to shine in the final eight Premier League games and prove why Moyes should stick by him into the summer and beyond.
