There’s no way to sugarcoat it: Jack Grealish’s injury is a major blow for Everton.

Everton already have a lack of squad depth as it is, with Grealish’s latest injury doing nothing but adding to the growing concerns over the Toffees’ lack of recruitment.

The Merseysides confirmed that the on-loan City star sustained a foot injury, with little clarification provided beyond that.

However, it has since been reported that the injury will keep Grealish out of action for three months, with the winger not likely to return until late April.

That in itself is a huge blow for Everton and for David Moyes, though a very pale silver lining could be set to somewhat soften the concern.

Jack Grealish blow could be softened by return of Iliman Ndiaye

Everton’s latest 1-0 win over Aston Villa was a huge one given the circumstances, and it was their final game without the services of Iliman Ndiaye.

He’s been away on AFCON duty, and he’s more than played his part in Senegal winning the competition after a controversial final against the host nation, Morocco.

However, Ndiaye is due to return to Merseyside within the next few days, having gone back to his home country to celebrate their triumph.

There is a chance that the 25-year-old could feature against Leeds at the weekend, and quite frankly, if available, he has to.

Neither Dwight McNeil nor Tyler Dibling have showcased their worth this season, and yet both could be in line to start if Ndiaye isn’t back in time.

Everton’s hands may also be forced over Harrison Armstrong decision

Back in the summer, the decision was made for Harrison Armstrong to join Preston on loan, and the teenager started to thrive the second he arrived.

However, the Toffees made the call to bring him back to the Hill Dickinson Stadium in January, mainly to help cope with several midfield absences.

Now, Preston seem intent on bringing Armstrong back for the remainder of the campaign, but that deal will be made far more difficult by Grealish’s injury.

Without knowing the full extent of his injury, Everton would be foolish to let Armstrong depart at this stage, despite the fact that he may not make it into the starting 11.

It looks as though the only way he will be allowed out on loan is if Everton can sign another player to cover for Grealish.
