Liverpool fans say the same thing as confirmed Alisson news emerges ahead of Champions League showdown

Alisson has suffered an injury and is missing from the Liverpool squad travelling to take on Galatasaray in the Champions League on Tuesday.

It is yet another fitness issue for the 33-year-old, who already missed over a month of action with a hamstring injury earlier in the season.

The Brazilian missed well over a month of last season, as well, and seems to be far more prone to injuries than other goalkeepers.

In Alisson’s absence, Giorgi Mamardashvili, who arrived from Valencia in the summer, will start for Arne Slot’s team.

Liverpool’s injuries have been relentless this season, with Alexander Isak, Wataru Endo and Conor Bradley among the other absences.

Liverpool fans ‘getting sick’ of Alisson injuries

Alisson’s quality has never been in doubt. Since joining from Roma in 2018, the Brazilian has placed himself among the best goalkeepers in Premier League history.

But, unusually for a goalkeeper, injuries have always remained a concern. Just once has Alisson played all 38 games of a Premier League season – his first.

His second season saw him ruled out with a calf injury at the start of the campaign, and hamstring and muscle problems have been commonplace in recent years.

Football Insider revealed last month that Liverpool will not sell Alisson, yet the goalkeeper’s consistent problems are becoming frustrating.

The Times reported that the 33-year-old complained of discomfort after Monday’s training session and, while the problem is thought to be minor, the Reds are not willing to take any risks.

Liverpool fans expressed their frustration with the news on social media, with one writing that he has “never known of a more injury-prone keeper in my life”.

Another called the persistent injuries “bizarre”, while others asked for inquests into Alisson’s repeated problems, with one saying that he is “getting really sick of him”.

X user Braden asked: “How can a GK get injured so much?? Genuine question. It’s just beyond ridiculous now”.

Arne Slot backs Giorgi Mamardashvili

Thankfully, Liverpool have a strong replacement for Alisson in Mamardashvili.

The Georgian goalkeeper enjoyed an up-and-down run in the Premier League during his teammate’s last absence, but his quality is apparent.

The 25-year-old dominates his penalty box, and is more than capable of producing the type of stunning saves that Alisson does.

“I think we saw [on his competitive debut] against Southampton how well he’s adjusted,” said Slot in October.

“We knew we were bringing in a very good goalkeeper, but when he plays his first game, that’s always the best way of seeing that he’s adjusted well or not.

“I think we saw in that game that he’s adjusted really well to our club. Which is not a surprise, because he’s a quality goalkeeper.”
