View: Everton may have suffered double transfer blow after Man United exit announcement
Everton had been linked with a move to sign Kobbie Mainoo.
David Moyes needs to start seeing transfer movement at Everton if they are to progress in the second half of the campaign.
Among those who have been linked with a move to the Hill Dickinson Stadium is Mainoo, who has had a distinct lack of gametime over the last 12 months under Ruben Amorim, before he was eventually sacked at Old Trafford.
The Toffees will almost certainly have seen him as a long-term replacement for Idrissa Gueye, but their chances of landing any deal in the near future have just taken a massive hit after the latest announcement at Man United.
Man United announce that midfielder will leave in summer
Mainoo has been linked with Everton, and his recent absence at Old Trafford has been strange, with Manuel Ugarte and Casemiro keeping him out of the starting 11.
However, the Red Devils announced on Thursday that Casemiro will leave Old Trafford at the end of the campaign, after four years in the Premier League.
The Brazilian has started 20 times for the Red Devils this season, showcasing his importance, albeit predominantly under Amorim.
However, with his exit now announced, Man United would be highly unlikely to sanction an exit for Mainoo anytime soon, given the fact that they will see him as an ideal successor to the 33-year-old.
In fact, the talented 20-year-old has had a new lease of life under interim boss Michael Carrick, who handed him his first Premier League start of the season in their latest 2-0 win over Man City.
Casemiro exit could serve as another blow for Everton
Not only does this end any chance of Everton signing Mainoo, but it may also serve as a blow to their ambition to retain the services of James Garner beyond this season.
It’s claimed that Everton are close to reaching an agreement with Garner that will see him extend his stay on Merseyside, though that is highly unlikely to put the Red Devils off either in the winter or in the summer.
If Everton can’t sign Mainoo, then there is no world in which they should sanction the exit of Garner, given his importance throughout the season.
It remains to be seen what Man United look to do in the event of Casemiro’s exit, but Everton will have to stay wary.
