View: Finch Farm gem to rage after Moyes' latest comments, he won't get his chance at Everton

Everton boss David Moyes has all but confirmed that Braiden Graham won’t be given a chance to shine for the first team before the end of the season.

The Toffees play West Ham this weekend in a Premier League showdown that is important for both sides.

Moyes will be another attacker down when his side travels to the London Stadium, as Beto is unavailable with a concussion.

Though the Blues are fighting to secure their place in a European competition, Beto’s absence highlights another key reason as to why youngsters need to be bedded in at some point.

The end of the season is always a good time to test the youth, and Graham’s excellence at Finch Farm doesn’t seem to be enough to persuade Moyes.

David Moyes suggests Braiden Graham might get a chance in pre-season

Graham has been on fire for Everton’s U21s this season, scoring for fun in the Premier League 2, with many fans questioning when he will be given the call-up to the first team.

The 18-year-old is understood to regularly train with the senior squad, which will, over time, hopefully ease his transition into first-team football.

As seen in the table above, Graham has netted 12 times for the Toffees in the Premier League 2 this season, and is the division’s third-top goal scorer.

Following the teenager’s recent four-goal performance against Ipswich Town this month, Moyes was asked before Everton’s clash against West Ham, just how soon we can see the youngster in action at Hill Dickinson.

Moyes said, as quoted by the Liverpool Echo: “Everybody wants good young players to come through, and I’m pleased that Braiden’s doing well. I think he’s got a bit to go before he’s at our level.

“I am really pleased, and if he does that, he will get more noticed and probably get more chances of being seen in pre-season than he would do now.”

Graham will never be able to fully develop if he’s never given a chance, and what harm would it do to include him on the bench for games?

Take the 3-0 win over Chelsea, for example, he could have played 15 minutes in that. Moyes is wrong to have this approach, and let’s just hope it doesn’t come back to bite.

January decision on Graham now questionable

There was interest in Graham in the January window, with multiple clubs keen to take him out on loan.

The Blues opted against sending him out, and valued his presence at Finch Farm, where he has continued to have sucess.

However, at some point, he will have to make the step up to the men’s game, and with Moyes suggesting he may get a chance in pre-season, his chances of making an impact would have been better had he been returning from loan.

Everton have a future Northern Ireland international on their hands, and it would be no surprise to see him force a move in the next few years if he doesn’t get the opportunities he deserves.
