View: Moyes could have his own Marco Reus as Everton make contact over new transfer

Everton could sign an attacker who has previously been compared to Marco Reus.

Reus was regarded as one of the best players in world football in his time with Borussia Dortmund, but injuries took their toll on his career.

David Moyes is desperate for attacking reinforcements at Everton in the January transfer window, with his Blues side lack the cutting edge that is required to reach the upper echelons of the Premier League.

His latest target may change that, and could give the Scotsman his own version of the former Bundesliga superstar at the Hill Dickinson Stadium.

Moyes talked about incomings in his pre-Villa press conference.

Who is Everton’s latest attacking target?

Everton have been linked with Callum Wilson and Youssef En-Nesyri, but a new name has emerged for their transfer plans.

Rudy Galetti claimed on 18 January that the Toffees are one of the clubs to have asked about Wolfsburg winger Patrick Wimmer‘s availability.

Wimmer provides a stunning assist.

He stated that contacts are ongoing and a winter move cannot be ruled out, with the likes of Fulham, Lazio, Bologna and Fiorentina also interested.

How does Patrick Wimmer compare with Reus?

Wimmer has been compared to Reus by the official Bundesliga website, which noted his pace and athletic ability.

They said: “Wimmer is at his best when he gets the ball at the feet and is able to run at opposition defenders, using his pace and ball control to get into dangerous positions either for a cross or to take a shot himself.

“At times, his game is reminsicent of a young Marco Reus.”

In terms of statistics, Wimmer has played 14 times this season in Germany’s top-flight, with three goals and three assists.

The 2018-19 campaign is often regarded as Reus’ best in a Dortmund shirt, as he notched 17 goals and eight assists in 27 matches.

Wimmer’s stats are similar to that magical campaign from the 36-year-old, as he is averaging 1.3 successful dribbles to Reus’ 0.9 in that season, per Sofascore.

He is also averaging 0.2 assists per match, and Reus reached a figure of 0.3 in his best campaign in the German top-flight.

Wimmer creates 0.5 key passes per game, while Reus made 1.4 in his best season with the Yellow and Black.

Reus has the edge when it comes to goalscoring, with 0.6 per match compared to Wimmer’s 0.2, but there is time for the Austrian to improve with half a season still to play.

In terms of conversion rate, he is right behind, with 23 per cent compared to 25 per cent for the veteran star.

That suggests that he would be an extremely good signing for the Blues, if they can get a deal over the line.
