View: Moyes will be furious with Premier League after inconsistency away from Everton

Everton boss David Moyes will surely be less than impressed after Rob Edwards went unpunished for his reaction to Wolves’ 2-1 victory over Liverpool on Tuesday evening.

Moyes was shown a yellow card for an over-exuberant celebration of Beto’s last-minute equaliser against Brighton at the end of January.

The Scot strayed out of his technical area and onto the pitch as Everton secured a 1-1 draw at the Amex, with referee Chris Kavanagh taking exception to the show of emotion.

However, Edwards escaped without punishment just over a month later, despite running down the length of the touchline to celebrate Wolves’ stoppage-time winner against Liverpool.

Premier League clarify David Moyes situation

Moyes was already furious at the decision to award him a yellow card for his celebrations, criticising the rules in his post-match press conference after the Brighton draw.

The Everton boss vowed to celebrate in the same way in the future, despite the punishment he received.

There has been some confusion around the inconsistency of decisions though, after Edwards wasn’t booked for running down the touchline against Liverpool.

According to BBC Sport journalist Phil McNulty, the difference between the two situations is that Moyes came onto the pitch after the Everton equaliser, while Edwards stayed on the correct side of the white lines.

However, that is unlikely to change Moyes’ feelings about the situation, given that both managers exited their technical areas in celebration.

David Moyes has even more reason to celebrate

Wolves’ win over Liverpool actually has quite the impact on Everton, especially in their race for European football.

The Toffees beat Burnley 2-0 at the Hill Dickinson Stadium on Tuesday evening, moving onto 43 points for the season.

They are now just five points adrift of their Merseyside rivals, who currently sit fifth in the table, and still have an outside shot at the Champions League places.

If Everton can continue their current form for the rest of the campaign, then Moyes will have even more reason to celebrate come the end of May.
