View: Rangers star will be angry with St Mirren performance - here's why

Mikey Moore wasn’t at his best as Rangers narrowly escaped Paisley with a 1-0 win against St Mirren on Sunday.

The fact that the end of the Scottish Premiership season is drawing near was made evident at the SMISA Stadium on Sunday, as Rangers just about claimed three points over St Mirren.

It was an afternoon that saw Danny Rohl’s side unable to put the Buddies to bed, and had the feeling of one that would see them punished late on because so.

Thankfully, Rangers held on for the win, and it was vitally important they did so too, as they closed the gap at the top of the table to three points after Hearts’ defeat to Kilmarnock on Saturday.

Mikey Moore wasn’t at his best in Rangers win vs St Mirren

Moore has been a top signing for Rangers, after joining on loan from Tottenham in this season’s summer transfer window.

Despite only being 18-years old, the versatile winger has evolved into one of Gers’ best players this term, and is now one of the first names on the teamsheet every week.

With five goals and three assists to his name in all competitions this season, that return probably doesn’t tell the full story of his all-round impact at Ibrox, as his work rate and creativity has seen him become a firm fan favourite.

Therefore, it was disappointing and fairly surprising to see him so off his game against St Mirren, as he endured a largely wasteful afternoon in attack, spurning numerous openings and failing to leave his mark on the game.

As per Sofascore, Moore registered just one shot in the game, made zero attempts to cross the ball, gave the ball away 15 times and won just one of his seven ground duels.

He also won zero tackles, took three unsuccessful touches, was caught offside twice and recorded an expected goals (xG) number of 0.02 respectively.

Although, it is only fair to mention as well that Moore would’ve had an assist had Thelo Aasgaard not have been adjudged to have been stood in an offside position when tapping into an empty net following Moore’s pass.

Rohl won’t be overly concerned with Moore’s performance

But, this sub-par display from Moore is sure to be very much a blip, as the teenager has been brilliant for Rangers over recent weeks.

He’s certainly earned the odd off day for Gers, especially when the team are still able to win the match as they did against St Mirren.

In truth, none of Rangers’ forward players had a particularly good game against the Buddies, and so it wasn’t as though it was just Moore who wasn’t on the ball.

So, Rohl certainly won’t be panicking over Moore’s offering over the weekend, and will no doubt have him straight back in the starting lineup when his side welcome Aberdeen to Ibrox on Saturday.
